I was on another thread I started and someone mentioned calvary twills.
They said it was sort of like the american chino but also said that they were originally for riding.
My questions are:
Are calvary twills, initially being for riding, tighter than other sorts of slacks?
and if they are significantly different where can I get a pair?

Cavalry twill is a fabric. I would say it is like a diagonal fine cordeuroy or a large whale gaberdine.

Usually wool I guess, it is also called regimantal cloth I think. YOu often see vintage sporting gear, as well as western pants and jackets.
