Flying lessons

Not sure what forum to ask this question in: I would like to find out approximately how much it costs to take private flying lessons and who to call for them. I thought it would be nice to get these for my husband for a birthday gift when he turns 60 (I have 2 1/2 years to save up!) We are reasonably close to Burbank, CA airport if that's any help.

I'm a PP myself, you're doing a grand deed for your husband!

Look up Cessna Pilot Center on the web. There is probably one at BUR or at Van Nuys airport. They have packages available that include the necessary ground school training as well as the dual instruction with a qualified CFI (Certificated Flight Instructor). Most likely you'll be able to surprise him with one of their 20min demo flights prior to the actual commencement of training.

I started when I was fifteen and soloed at 16! I still remember that first demo flight; the more questions I asked, the longer we stayed aloft!!

I'll find a couple of web addresses to send your way - I'll post them here for everyone's benefit and so he won't read your email and spoil the surprise!!

What a wonderful gift idea!

Roughly, you can look at spending anywhere from $3K to $5K on obtaining a private pilot certificate. Most schools offer packages that allow you to purchase all of your ground & flight training at a discounted rate.

The easiest way to find a school is check with your local municipal airports.

$5K would actually be a more expensive school. Most seem to run between $3 and $4, so you should be able to do it. Good luck!

Just remember to tell your Hubby to wear an old shirt when he gets close to soloing........I made the mistake of wearing one I liked, not expecting to solo that weekend.
