The National Audiovisual Institute KAVI owns rights to some 450 Finnish feature films released between the 1920s and 1980s. They have an online service where one can watch these films for free of charge. All the feature films are at least HD quality. Majority of the films are available in 4K UHD. There are also thousands of vintage advertisements and newsreels on the same service.

Here's a link to a list of 23 feature films with English subtitles (select the language using the "CC" button on the viewing window). There are also some film with either Swedish, French or German subtitles. A few picks from the list:

    • White Reindeer (1952). Finnish horror drama film set in Lapland. Winner of the 1956 Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Film.
    • Unknown Soldier (1955). War film based on The Unknown Soldier, a novel by Väinö Linna. Told from the viewpoint of ordinary Finnish soldiers.
    • Winter War (1989). War film based on The Winter War, a novel by Antti Tuuri. Depicts the struggle against Soviet forces during 1939-40.
