The Star is at the top of my list by a stretch. Second place goes to Eastman. Thanks for your input.

I agree with your sentiment towards the Star. This is likely what I will purchase. Very nice looking Martin Lane! I see why you’re regretting the sale.

Definitely going with the Star and replacing the original mouton with a fresh, vintage mouton collar. It will also have fresh cuffs. I’ll definitely post fit pics once I receive it.

Excellent choice! The Star is beautiful.

Honestly, I think repros are great (I have several).

But making and selling a repro is a series of choices: in accuracy, in availability, and in desirability; which sometimes counters accuracy.

If you want the real deal, you may be holding it in your hands shortly. My, sadly, only actual issue G-1 (other than the one that was issued to me) is a 1941 Willis and Geiger and I’d love to know what sights it has seen.

Still, if the ELC speaks to you, it’s a great jacket. There’s one in my closet right now that I am dying to wear...if it ever gets below 90!

Wear whatever you choose in good health, and once again, welcome!

This is the Star with the collar and cuffs replaced and stencil re-stamped. Can’t wait to get it! I like how the stencil turned out. It’s not perfect which gives it more character in my opinion.

Congratulations Reginald, the jacket looks beautiful with the new cuffs and collar!
If I may ask, how the hell did you get that work done so quickly???. It was just the other day you were pondering the purchase and now it has been completely updated and on its way to you.

I was going to ask the same question as @ElMarro did; who did the work on the jacket? Looks superb!

Thank you sir! I agree. Quick indeed...I’m wondering that myself. The seller said they had a contact in the leather industry that had done work like this before and could do the work on the jacket. I was skeptical at first but hadn’t paid for the jacket yet so I figured if it didn’t turn out well I wasn’t out anything and would simply have to find another one. So long as it fits well I’ll consider myself one lucky fella! I look forward to receiving it so I can post some pics.

I was just wondering how the hell you got this done so fast when I read El Marro's question.

Anyway that looks amazing - almost nothing looks as good as a broken in goat hide. I love a good G1 jacket. Unfortunately that furry collar limits it's use down here - I have been tempted by the Cockpit USA's G1 with removable collar as a bearer jacket.

Yeah the removable collar would definitely be a nice option in warmer climates. My Brooks Bros. G-1 inspired flight jacket has a removable mouton collar but I rarely take it off because the jacket looks better with it on. It’s real wool but not genuine mouton as the wool is not attached to a leather backing. Note I used the phrase “G-1 inspired” because as you can tell from the pics below it’s definitely not a true G-1 for several reasons.

At the moment I don’t have time to wax poetic about the jacket but I wanted to post some pics. In short, I found a new best friend. Looking forward to reading everyone’s critiques later.

Thank you gentlemen. The hide was in a little rougher shape than I anticipated but there aren’t any glaring issues. Hide was just really dry. I put some Lexol on it for an initial revitalization and it drank it in. After all it is approximately 65 years old... I may add another application in a few weeks. After that I’ll switch to Picard’s or Obenauf’s.

This being my first G-1 I had no idea how comfortable the jacket is. As a self proclaimed jacket junkie this may be the most comfortable close fitting jacket I’ve ever worn. It moves so well with me. Phenomenal design. I love the A-2 but the G-1 is just next level.

    This is so true!
I love A2s as well but great fitting ones are few and far between. On the other hand G-1s look good on almost everybody and they are a pleasure to wear.
