Lovely hat, Steve. Very nice colour and the finish the German makers did so well. I admit I don't care much for the vents on this hat though. Nice find.

Not vintage, but in fact new, I like it a lot! AND it's UV rated....at least I think it is....the information is all in German! Really nice fully embroidered tip label! Just like the old days......

Mark, Looks great! Does it have a paper label or other label? I think it's probably pre Slovakia.

Yes, I should have mentioned it. Really soft supple leather, almost like a latigo leather rather than roan. Pretty nice overall!

Its cowhide

Specifically, it is cowhide that is double tanned (2 tanning methods used) AND often infused with waxes and oils. Makes this form of leather VERY strong and supple!
This type of leather makes great bridles, reins and cinch straps!

This for the felt, I have in various interpretations in French hats

Huber Air Exquisit size 59 centimeters

Sold by Paul Rhein - Saarlouis - Grosse Markt

This are the writing on the sweatband that is difficult to decipher because faded
The proportions are as follows: the brim is 6 cm. overwelt, the ribbon is 5 cm. and the open crown is 13.5 cm. cresed as telescope

Felt is often soft and quite rigid, perhaps because it has long been in need of a little steam, however the texture and the color are very similar to French felts that undoubtedly are softer

The hat is in good condition, it has no lining but just a tip as you can see
