So right Bob! To me, firing a hat is akin to an act of war on the felt. Strong language is called for.

Brent - While it may not necessarily HAVE TO be the case, I find your statement to none the less be correct on some occasions. Usually when I get 7/8 of the way through a hat and make a mess of it, thus having to start over FROM SCRATCH. :(

On the upside, I've found that beaver fur felt makes excellent coasters.

TONAK-Czechoslovakia or FEPSA-Portugal. If I may ask, though, Julie, why wool felt hat bodies and not rabbit fur?

Just a thought here Julie, but since it's for newborn baby hats, have you considered using flat sheets of blockable felted wool instead of hat bodies? At $25 per square yard, and cheaper still by the 10 yard bolt, this seems like a very cost effective option. https://www.judithm.com/catalog/flat-100-woolfelt

I've never used it, but I would think it could be cut into rounds, boiled, then while still hot, hand molded over almost anything that will give you a crown shape. I'm thinking at least 4 baby hats from a square yard of felt. If you decide to try it, I'd be most curious to see your results.
