Thanks. If you’re not familiar with one it’s a horse hoof print. I used ~5” piece of plastic aquarium tubing & a big sterling silver serving spoon, besides steam & an iron. Don’t use an aluminum spoon as it will leave marks on the felt.

Before they were farmers they were planters, pre & post Civil War. I wanted a Planters hat very common in MO at that time. My ancestors probably wore very similar hats. I determined that the Akubra Territory had the dimensions one required.

Inspirations

Wanted a hat similar to what a Missouri Partisan Ranger as a rebel might wear during the Civil War. I selected a Thoroughbred 10X as a candidate (no prior pics). It turned out to be difficult to work with requiring a lot of ironing, as it is hard as a helmet.

Southern Cross of Honor as issued by the UDC ~1900.

Today is the 136th anniversary of the death of Robert “Bob” Younger while in Stillwater Prison.

I recently got an Akubra Cattleman, but the style as it came stock didn't work for me at all. It was too high and bulky looking on my head, and I can't do the straight brims. I reshaped it as a western. My first few attempts didn't work out, but I like how it turned out. Lowered the front, no more tear drop shape, added some side dents, and gave the brim some flare. It fits my style much better now and I think I'll keep it. I love this Fern green color.
