hello,

i recently bought a pair of boots from fleabay what were listed as "german mountain trooper boots" -- it turned out that there was a company name stamped onto the insole: "j. spencer & co. ltd." with the year "1943". size 7, i assume the company is british, perhaps?

would anyone here know anything about said company/factory?

google search turned up one semi-relevant hit about a patent for steel shafting ... thanks much in advance (pictures below):

English made Ski boots for the military as cw3pa says, the cut in the heel is for the cable binding and the flat metal plates helped the toe sit properly in the toe binding. I just googled said company and they were John Spencer and co, established in 1820 in my old home town or Irthlingborough, Northants, they were still trading in 1958(northants was a major manufacturer of leather shoes since the 1600s) only a handful of manufacturers remain now.

wonderful, thank you both for your help!

as a bonus, here is another pair that i bought by the end of last year -- british cc41 utility ski/mountain boots, among my favorite vintage boots (circa 1941/1942):
