Re: Jackets owned

Hi all,

Although I concentrate more on flight gear and such, I do have an original Dubow A-2 along with a Werber B-3. I was also fortunate to get an original B-15 from a gunner with the 487th B.G. before he passed away. I love the B-3 but it is pretty fragile and I don't wear it often. I just keep coming back to the classic look of the A-2! With officer pants, a pinks shirt, and crusher cap you can't beat the look!

My best to all,

Mike

Leather jackets....

About 40-50; repros, originals (most WWII, one Korean era G-1), 40's HH etc.
Got rid of a lot of jackets before we moved from CA to AZ, probably another 30-40, mostly vintage HH. Tried to sell a bunch of them at shows, as cheap as $10 each but ended up taking 20 or so to Goodwill.
There is very little need for leather jackets in southern AZ, and my collection of original WWII flight jackets is pretty complete, so I don't buy much anymore. The only one missing is a large size M422, as they had such short arms I need a larger size. The ones I had previously were all too small, as all of my original 'keeper' jackets have to fit.
I do still need a nice repro A-1 though, to wear when driving my 1930 truck. I don't even consider looking for an original A-1, doubt I'll ever find a decent one.

Lists, lists, lists...I'm only gonna list types here, not numbers.

Civilian dress: 2- and 3-button and DB suit (incl: worsted, crepe, serge, gab, tweed, linen, flannel, seersucker), 2- and 3-button and DB odd (incl: tweed, serge, crepe, linen, worsted), 3-button swingback (tweed).
Formal: SB & DB tuxedos, ivory SB DJ, tailcoat.
WW2 military dress: Army officer's green and tan blouses and Ike, Army enlisted green blouse, Navy aviator's green and tan blouses.
Dress outerwear: Wool-cashmere topcoat, SB raincoat (microfiber & wool gab), DB raincoat (Army wool gab).
Cazh' outerwear: Flight jackets (A2 leather & cotton, G2), leather car coat, rain parka, McGregor-type windbreaker (cotton twill).

I'm thinking of having an old tweed jacket that's too short in the skirt for me made into an Ike-type golf jacket.

How many types is that? Only you can decide. Have fun.

My Jackets

Eastman 'Pearl Harbour' Havana Horsehide A2.
Aero 'Cossack' Front Quarter Heavy Horsehide Vintage Black with alpaca lining.
Wested 'Indy -Raiders' Authentic Brown Lambskin.

And after selling a Buzz Rickson's 'Ultraviolet' limited edition MA-1 that didn't fit, I've just aquired a Greenbrier Vintage MA-1.

Incidentally, does anyone know anyhting about Greenbrier reproductions? I think they did once provide original contacts to the US Air Force and continued to make correct spec reproductions but are now out of business. Can anyone fill me in and give their views on the quality, etc?

I feel much better for having read this.... ;)

I've got about seven or eight civilian leather jackets at this point, none of them really vintage (not earlier than 70s, anyhow), though they're mostly cut to classic pattern.

Two long overcoats

One Burberry Trench

Two peacoats (one modern, US made, one 60s ish (I think) West German navy)

one bright red Harrington jacket

one Levis Type 1 denim jacket

I think that's about it at the minute..... a whole bunch of flying jackets and more long overcoats are in my future..... ;)

ETA: Oh.... and I also have a handful of postwar army jackets, and a beautiful long leather trench coat which I think is vintage horse, but I've not been able to date. I'll have to get some photos up here...
