If you had to wear just 1 pair of boots for the rest of your life, what would they be?

If I’m answering the prompt in the title….last pair of boots I’d own…i.e. apocalypse boot…def just a pair of blunnies. I can ride motorcycles in them, walk in the rain or snow, hike, and I’ve even played a full set of tennis in blundstones.

However my favorite boots are just some Chippewa engineer boots

Blundstones used to be fine but the quality tailed off, possibly as a result of their production being moved out of Tasmania a few years ago. My last pair lasted a fraction of the time before the soles split, and this led me to try some Redbacks instead.
As said in a previous post in this thread I’ve found the quality, comfort and durability of a pair of Redbacks is head and shoulders above Blundstones and I’d certainly never go back.
I live in a rural area, where the industry is mainly agricultural. It is very noticeable that for quite some time the brand of choice of anyone who wants a pair of elastic sided leather boots is Redback and you’re now unlikely to see anything else being worn.

If the sad reality came through and I could only wear one pair of boots it would be these engineers from Råland Bootmaker.

They are insanely comfortable and fits me like a glove, they are made here in Sweden to a very high standard, the design is spot on and the black color makes them super easy to wear/match

I like Redwing Iron Rangers, they are pretty comfortable once you get them broken in.

I used to have a pair of these and they did me for everything, motorcycling, walking, casual use. Maybe time to get another pair..

I love my chippewa "monkey" boots, can't remember the model but they're one of their original ones made in us, very good quality. I like the idea of blundstones but the sole just doesn't look good to me in terms of style.

@r.biker what a great thread idea. I am not a great boot guy, living in South Florida it is mostly sneakers (gasp). My favorite boots though are White's Semi-dress. Comfortable toebox and last. I almost believe White's claim that these were mostly worn by clerks and assembly workers who were on their feet all day.

Great to hear so many different perspectives. I have some more boots to consider now in case of an apocalypse occurring

Still leaning towards the RW moc toes atm though! They seem to go with most uses / and the style i wear

Blundstones definitely have their market. I'm not a fan of elastic-sided Chelsea boots anyhow, but the Blundstones I've seen are also much too chunky for my tastes. I get the concept, though, as I can see the attraction with the convenience of a pull-on work-boot. Just not for me.

Monkey boots I like - I particularly prefer the American 'roofer' style, like the Chippewas. Love the lace to toe look. Has to be the right sole, though - I definitely prefer a leather sole or something like a low-profile vibram sole. Not a fan of the very pronounced treads or the DM-style soles that tend to be the norm on the UK versions. ModShoes in the UK did a nice version with a leather sole; if they have my size in stock when I have the scratch next, I might well try a pair of those.

Good to know! I guess what explains my perspective on blundstones is that I’ve had both my pairs for 10+ years! Time to look at redback

Blundstone got a lot of bad publicity and lost customers when they moved production out of Tasmania to Vietnam, China, Thailand and India. There were also reports of their soles crumbling, ‘blowing out’ or ‘exploding’ and this got even more traction when Russell Crowe tweeted about it.
There’s someone on You Tube who goes by the name of Rose Anvil and he dissects various brands of footwear to review their construction and quality. In one video he cuts a Redback boot in half.

I've not bought any as of yet. I'd probably want to check them out in person first (Brighton's only an hour on the train from London), but I'd expect them to be reasonably decent at their like for like prices. The models I looked at were about them same price as the branded equivalents, so. Unfortunately they don't seem great at keeping stock in on their website, don't know if that's the same in the shop. A lot of smaller businesses are the same online - Rocket Originals used to have a great range of men's shoes, but in the last few years it's been really poor.

I own a few Chelsea boots but what got me interested in them was seeing the Edwardian-style slip on ankle boots in 60s British films, which are no longer really available so I wanted a substitute. (Ironically, because I had a pair of Chelseas filling that void, I completely missed that Crockett & Jones brought that style back for a few years, until they had been discontinued.)

Red Anvil is fun to watch but his comments are completely worthless. His positivity or negativity comes entirely down to whether he has a marketing deal with the shoe company in question. (This was les the case with his earliest videos.) He's brazen enough that he'll praise something on one of the boots that sponsors him then attack the same feature on another boot, for example.
