I watched it. It was surprisingly not horrible! Rather enjoyable, actually, though it bugged me that Swayze kept carrying a bandoleer for a gun that he wasn't carrying for at least the last 2/3rds of the movie.... It looked sexy, though, so I guess that's what mattered!

The hat looked rather Australian to me. One could likely get an Akubra that was pretty close, if not precisely the same. Maybe the "Territory"....

Snowy River?

Thought the movie was a pretty decent made-for-TV effort. The hat looked to me like it had a brim about 3 1/4 inches, and a low crown where the "dome" poked out up top at the back of the hat, just like Akubra's Snowy River. The brim was flat, lacking the SR's swooped sides, but as Dutchman noted, it sure looked like an Aussie.

A somewhat similar type of safari hat was worn by Val Kilmer in "The Ghost and the Darkness". Now he had a REALLY nice hat! ;)

This film is far from perfect but I found it to be enjoyable. It's a modified version of a classic adventure tale with great costumes and shot on location in Africa. What more can one expect from a tv movie? I kind of admire Swayze because he looks his age and hasn't had his face pulled tight by plastic surgery. He's also pretty darned ripped for his age. I was never in that shape at any age. Anyway, the hat could have been made from any number of reshaped and modified Akubras. It certainly appears to have that trademark santone color that you see on so many Akubras. There are no visible vent holes. Looks much too wide for a Snowy River. I'm going to guess it could be an open crowned Silver Spur or perhaps Boss of the Plains. It could always be a costumer's custom creation but I think you could pretty easily replicate it from the models mentioned above.

Sounds like I missed a nice little romp . . .

I love this sort of film . . . Sure they are cheesy, but I am less interested in who wins the academy award then in being entertained . . .

As for Patrick Swayze in the movies . . . love the hat he wore in Next of Kin

Yes . . . this movie is another guilty pleasure of mine . . .
Wish I could find you all a better pic of the hat.
