I thought I would introduce Lofty Opus, a small leather workshop based in Korea. They produce vintage-inspired jackets in limited quantities, using some very good leathers and hardware.
This one is their 1930s-style half-belt sports jacket, made from 1.3mm Nitta horsehide roughout from Japan. It has a rayon lining, a reproduction Talon zipper, and original deadstock buckles from the 1930s.
The leather is dense and fairly substantial, rather than the soft, lightweight suede usually found on fashion jackets. The nap gives it plenty of variation in both color and texture depending on the light. I also like the simple front, wide collar, and especially the sports-back construction and half-belt.
The fit is short and neat, but still comfortable enough for regular wear. Construction is very clean throughout, and I have been impressed with the overall quality.
The original retail price was ₩1,290,000—roughly US$875, which I think was quite reasonable considering the materials and workmanship. This particular model is currently sold out, however.
Lofty Opus is still relatively unknown outside Korea, but I think the workshop is worth keeping an eye on for anyone interested in vintage-style leather jackets.
