Willis & Geiger was such a monumentally important clothing line for adventure wear and adventure seekers. In honor of W&G, I’ve started an appreciation thread to post anything from your safari jackets to bush shirts to A-2 jackets and other items. I will kick things off with my Officer’s “Pink” Shirt in Gabardine.

Reposting this from the "Great Outdoors" "Bush Jackets" thread: (On that same thread Bushman posted a photo of his W&G jacket.)

Getting back on topic. I suppose this is the “ultimate” bush jacket; if only because of the classic golden-era brand name and the claim that it is the jacket Hemingway wore.

Although, being a traditionalist, I would personally prefer it with a belt. I'm also not sure about the glasses pocket on the sleeve.

Well, I’ll have to keep this going I guess. I would think the dapper folks of this forum would have safari jackets, bush shirts, fur felt zebra striped hats, map cases and messengers, and A-2 jackets galore from W&G. Here’s my A-2 recently purchased from Poshmark (this is from the listing). The small paint specks on the sleeve and on the back of the jacket came off with a damp facecloth and my fingernail. The jacket has no visible wear whatsoever. I found from past experience that even though I’m a size 42 in most everything, this label W&G requires going up either one or two whole sizes in order to have freedom of arm movement. For the insanely low asking price of $70, I made due with going 2 sizes up. When I tested it with a thin vintage L&T Shetland Wool Sweater as a layer, it was perfect.

I have a number of Willis & Geiger items, including the Hemingway bush jacket:

And their rucksack, which is my go-to day pack:

I also have a safari hat that I swapped the zebra hide out for a braided leather band, and added a chinstrap to:

Love all of it. I have a 1998-1999 safari jacket that I’ll post someday that is making me crazy in that I cannot adjust the belt to fit snugly enough. The belt had these buttoned across the loop sections to hold it in place and there’s simply too much material to get the buttonhole to align with the button. I’m thinking of taking a post-COVID-19 trip to a tailor to move a button over so that I can get the right alignment.

So while not the stuff of legendary W&G, Lands’ End in order to keep the trademark alive generally markets a product every couple of years with the branding. This is the current bomber jacket offering - a sort of bastardized A-2 crossed with G-8 crossed with modern sensibilities. But my wife bought it for me as at the time it was permissible to use the Lands’ End discount codes on it and it’s warm and not so bad for a cold dry early winter’s day.
