I believe "United Hatters" is pre-34, and changed to "United Hatters Cap and Millenery Workers" after '34.

https://imgur.com/a/BfNHo It was pretty interesting seeing some more hats with the same union tag as my straw boater. It made me even happier that I saw that poster featuring a union boater.

EDIT: After looking at many of the posts in this thread I also noticed that the band on some of the fedoras matches the band on my boater

One of my hats has the post-1934 union tag inside but it has 2 numbers printed on it. I believe that every image I've seen in this thread only show 1 number. This tag has a small No. 6 to the right of the union bug, and a larger No. 82 in black ink on the top right of the label. I read that a number near the bug means the local number, but what would the second number be?

I found this one on the back side of my Cavanaugh Edge. The size tag popped off and I haven't put it back on yet. (Guess I probably should, right??)

My "Dunstatter" Derby (unknown manufacture) has the older style label. I had Mike Miller refurb the Derby and now it is a stand alone artifact. It shows the older style union label.

There is a little printer’s “bug” or blimp-shaped mark there in the top left hand corner of the union label. If it is parallel to the top of the tag it is a mid-40s or earlier hat. If the bug is diagonal, the hat is probably post-mid 40s.

Parallel. Based on the union tag you can probably figure the hat is between 34-46.

I don’t know if the Penny’s Marathon thread can narrow it down more.

As far as I know, there isn’t any residual mercury in these vintage hats.

Here is a thread on the Mercury felting process; it is pretty hard to imagine any kind of a scenario where the hat still has mercury.
