That's too bad that your Grandfather's hat didn't fit you. That would've been perfect, to carry on the tradition for him. If it's not that small though, you know they could be stretched......[huh] What size was his?

Have you checked anything out on-line? If so, if you posted some pics to hats whose looks you like and see if that gives you some good suggestions.

Heres the most recent hat i've bought. It's just an el cheapo one I picked up at Spencers (teenage wako shop) for $20.00. I just couldn't resist the courderoy and crown depth.

I'd like to shape the brim a bit, but I really don't think it'd work, the quality, well, it's not going to stand steaming or anything, I have a suspicion it's cardboard under the cloth

Yeah, I've seen those around. I wouldn't steam it. I don't know how you want the brim to look, but if you just shape it with you hands and "play with it" from time to time, it may slowly conform.

Those are great little casual toppers. I usually see them in the men's section, but I think women look much better in them.

It's good to know what your head measures using a tape as described. Another very good thing to do is to visit a haberdashery to look at hats and even try stuff on. That way you can really see how various brims, colors, and crowns look and feel on you. You will learn a great deal about hats and come away feeling more confident in what you want. Have fun! E

This is an interesting thread because I have quite a few hats that aren't classic fedoras, so I haven't focused on selling them.

I've always thought they would sell better with women than men.

Here's an example:

Most of them are small sizes (6 7/8 to 7 1/8) but they are beautiful hats.

Hit the vintage shops, estate/garage sales, and ebay. Vintage women's hats are everywhere and cheap! They also have the added advantage of all women's clothing - variety. While men's hats are distinguished by differences in the smallest details (we discuss 16ths of an inch here), women's hats can vary from cloche to fedora to giant Easter hat - all of which might be acceptable for the same occasion.

Stetson sells women's hats now, and has for quite a while, but so have thousands of brands and stores with their own milliners. There are many hats to be had.

For women's sizes, just measure your head with a soft tape measure, around the area where you wear your hat. Most women's hats that I've seen are sized in inches - unlike men's hats, which require either memorizing a size chart or carrying a calculator.

Forget the mall hats. Make your own look.
