I agree, my M422A is warmer than an A2 (use A2 in warmer weather only). The 422A takes layering well ( t shirt & sweat), allows plenty of movement but still looks slim. The A2 on the other hand becomes a straitjacket with anything more than a T shirt underneath. A D1 with 1/4 inch shearling could be worth a look (as stated above) plenty of layering opportunities there.
