What a moron. Possession of a piece of artwork doesn't automatically confer copyright ownership. No attorney worth his/her salt would take on such a ludicrous case unless they were swindling him.

The earliest Mouse drawings were much more rat-faced than this fellow -- plus, he didn't wear gloves until 1929. The artwork here is much more consistent with an early '30s image than anything from the twenties. Maybe the artist was a cheapskate who used old ink.

Did I miss something?

The man likes Disney, so now he's filing a lawsuit against them over a $3 picture from a thrift store? If I was the judge, I would dismiss the case and put the man in the loony bin.

Isn't there a concept of "British Rule" whereby if you bring a frivilous lawsuit and lose, not only do you have to pay the court costs, but also the cost of the other side's attorneys?

I wish we had that in America. (Of course, then people'd be too scared to file such suits and there goes the Judge Judy show.)

Frivolous suit

I get the impression that he's just suing to get Disney to respond, not because he thinks he has a case. I think Lizzie's probably right about the image. There are lots of old cartoon drawings around.

Yes, I wish we had that law as well.

Going after a corporation as big as Disney......? Why doesn't he just put it on eBay and see what it brings. With all the research he's had done, he might sell it for a pretty good price.
