Tom Selleck can wear a hat! Excellent movie, and an exceptional book that does a great job of documenting the passing (for the most part) of a way of life.
I have the DVD & watch it frequently. My favorite line is after the fight at the train when Monty says, "Mr. Brookshire, you can't have no idea how little I care."
I like Tom Selleck. But I think for tonights' entertainment we'll take in Le Marvin's version. Monte Walsh 1970 Lee Marvin Full Movie HD - YouTube
Long been a fan of that hat as well, Mark. Timothy Olyphant’s character Dick ‘Deafy’ Wickware wears a similar hat in this season of “Fargo”.
I really like both those movies. Although they are nearly identical, I think if I had to choose just one, it would be the Lee Marvin version.
Richard Crenna & Stephen Boyd in the pretty good spaghetti-ish western, 'The Man Called Moon' (1973) It was filmed in southern Spain & featured the McBain house from 'Once Upon a Time in The West'(1968) It looks like this today.
And didn't they have great hats!! They look lived in, like one might assume those cowboys of the time really did.
I have the 40th Anniversary edition (2008) of "Once..." with extra scenes plus old & new interviews. I think the McBain house is all but gone now, & the hanging archway is. In an old interview Henry Fonda talks about the scene when they kill the McBain's & he shoots the little boy. He said he was prepared to wear dark contacts throughout the movie but Sergio Leone wanted that shot with his bright blue eyes.
The McBain house is still there but it's no longer standing alone, they've built a small town around it & hold gun fight shows & such for the tourists. It has been made into a saloon. And if you wanna go on a Leone tour.. https://www.tripadvisor.fr/ShowUser...;aggregationId=&albumid=&filter=2&ff=35393398
You can buy the "Woodrow Dolarhyde Hat", am certain I've seen it for sale at some point though I think it wasn't cheap.
I think Last Best West sells them, possibly Jaxonbilt, and I know Buckaroo hatter could make a similar hat. Later and Happy Thanksgiving
