In my effort to learn about what makes vintage felts special and see how they compare to my newer hats, I went on an e-bay buying spree (see here: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=3244 ).
So far, I am really impressed with the Resistol Monarch that I got. The interior pleating on the liner is really nice, and the felt itself has a nice feel and density. The inside tag shows an $8.00 purchase price. so I am guessing this was not a super high end hat, but it is still quite nice. Here are some pics.
I have also included a photo of the Resistol Lawton model, which has an underwelt and is made of a much thicker felt. The only thing notable is the bow, which I try to show. The color is a rich dark brown, not the dark gray the picture shows in my monitor (the Monarch color seems right).
