My mailbox has been taken away

The US Post Office has removed the mail box at the end of my block.

I know that the mailman picks up out-going mail at my house and we have move from snail mail to email and on-line bill paying but it will still be something I miss.

I always felt Archie Goodwin when I'd walk a piece of mail to the mailbox. Apparently, I - and my neighbors - did not do it enough to warrent the Post Office to keep the box there. I'm sure none of us used it in the winter, like now, when its a frigid 19 degrees outside.

Not a big thing - but just the disapperance of another symbol of a slower time.

I think a lot of it depends on volume, which depends population density and stuff. They're all over the place in DC where I live, both in my residential neighborhood and downtown where I work.

That was a sign posted in my neighborhood for awhile! Whenever I film-noir-like drop a letter into the mailbox I hope one of the little darlings from the school won't shove a snowball through the slot.
Come to think of it, they probably don't know what that blue thing in front of their school is. People around here generally go right to the cable company etc to pay their bills. [huh]

Oooh! THat happened to me too! I feel your pain!

I live in the 'bad' neighborhood of SF, 'De Loin'. And not only are their too few garbage cans on the blocks, but mail boxes as well!

They took out the one I had right across the street from me (next to a mail drop off station). It was gone for two weeks but then was put back in, I think because people complained (including me) and the two other mail boxes (blocks away) were getting so full that the mail box hinge would not close! lol

So back it went.

Complaing in mass, it works :)

I've heard that mailboxes are sometimes robbed or even stolen entirely. Better to take your letters to the P.O. (or pay your bills online).
