I am saying this with the greatest respect (Also as a reply to @Ohmufasaa), but this seems to be the general misconception:
TFL is NOT a sales platform! It’s a forum to share knowledge about clothing and indulge in the love for it. Selling (exchanging really) comes with the territory as it enables contributing members to expand on the hobby by getting to handle more items than would otherwise be accessible.
As a contributing member, 20 posts as an entry to the Classifieds is a non-issue. If you make an issue about it,, you’re obviously only here to sell, not to engage. That’s the domain on the Bay and other commercial platforms, really. With all the accompanying features like ****ming, aggressive marketing etc.

Again: not meant as a lecture, but I’ve been increasingly irritated by people asking about “the exact definition of 20 posts” when this is exactly the issue here
I am a prolific YouTube commenter, but I am unable to relate to discussions about "pounce" so I never made comments since I joined a decade ago. And I definitely am not going to take a picture of myself and post it here. I just figured there might be people in this forum who like Stetson One-Hundreds, 7X clear beavers, Boss of the Plains presented by Stetson's grandfather to the head of the Death Valley 49ers, and other lesser hats of that type. Oh well.

You can accuse me of being a ****mer, but I joined ebay in the late 1990s and have over 1500 transactions with 100% positive feedback. What does that indicate to you?

I’m willing to stand corrected but as far as I can see neither Tom 71 or anyone else is accusing you of being a ‘****mer’. Nor is it really relevant as to how long you’ve been on eBay or how many transactions you’ve made or how much positive feedback you’ve accumulated on that platform.
If you’re a ‘prolific You Tube commenter’ I find it a little strange that in 10 years as a member of the FL forum there haven’t been just 20 occasions where you felt there wasn’t something worth commenting on or contributing. Also, posting photos is not compulsory and nobody is asking you to do so.

Rest assured, I never wanted to accuse you of anything, least of all being a ****mer. And I honestly believe, my post can hardly be read that way.

I don’t get your irritation, though. You’ve been a member for 15 years and never tried to sell anything here. What do you lose with the new rule?

I am not seeking to mock you, but out of the three (3) posts you have managed on TFL in 15 years, two (2) are complaints about a new rule that factually doesn’t affect you.

With an uptick in new members who are here either to just sell things or to relieve other members of their cash without supplying the goods, we will remove any classified post by anyone who hasn't taken the time to get to know the forum and all it offers. You'll need 20 posts at a minimum to participate in the classified forum as a seller from here on out.

Looking for clarification: In the article title you say it applies to New Members. I've been a member since 2016 but an infrequent poster (haven't posted 20). Does this mean I'm not allowed to sell in Classifieds?

You may have been a member since 2016, however of the 16 posts you’ve made 13 were related to the 3 items you were selling (a Vanson Enfield jacket and 2 pairs of boots) and this latest one is also about selling.

Just to put my 2 cents out there based on the more recent replies, I'll say this, I do think some people are taking some things the wrong way. And while I don't disagree with the rule, there are always 2 things on forums that are bound to happen.

New members, on any forum I've been on, usually just don't contribute as much, at least to start off, as the old guard. Sometimes this is just because of a perceived lack of charity or actual lack of charity (everyone had to start somewhere). I know for myself I primarily stalk the forum because most things I'd want to ask have already been answered, but I do post here and there.

Additionally, there will always be people, regardless of the posting rules, who are primarily active on the classifieds board. And while I get that this is a discussion board, as long as there is a classified section that will always be there. Which, on the one hand can be a little annoying but at least more stuff is getting to members on the forum? Pros and cons I guess. (I'll even implicate myself because I know I've posted my fair share of WTB ads)

Just my observations

I understand this forum is not sales platform, but there is a classified section which has rules and clarification of the rule is what I was after. I tried to search for a quick answer but I did not see it so I just decided to ask in the hopes of someone being able to quickly provide clarification. I'm not looking to only leverage the classified section of this forum but as someone new to the world of leather jackets, I feel like I don't have enough knowledge to provide any info or worthy questions to create posts for discussion, however, I do have some jackets I've picked up over the past year that I have since decided don't fit what I want in a jacket and that is why I asked the question.

My interpretation of "Post" is the creation of a brand new thread, not just commenting, and that's what I wanted clarify. From some of the answers, it sounded like the rule is 20 comments are required, but again my assumption is different so I would rather ask and get confirmation without assuming.

It’s all good. No justification needed. I realise that my post came off as unnecessary critical. This is not what I intended.

I think it’s any comment etc. E.G. your account is listed with “12 messages” which I read as posts.

This is what I needed. However I think 3 of those 12 are from this discussion, and then another 2 I think are related to classified threads so those 5 shouldn't count towards the 20 minimum count, right?

Thanks for the clarification tho!

I wasn't aware that was a rule. Was that in the terms and agreements when you sign up? If so, I apologize. I listed something in the classifieds a couple of months back and I didn't have an issue.

Take a look at the title of the thread you’ve just raised this question in.

It's not a problem. I just didn't expect it to be an issue. This is the first forum I've been on that had a threshold for posting in the B/S section. For the most part, my time on FL is spent lurking for vintage/vintage repros to buy more than sell. I really won't be an active participant in discussions or the community as a whole. If the classifieds section was intended to be a forum for the FL community, I don't think I'll be an active part of it. If that's going to be issue than I understand completely if you want to remove my posts.

A "post" means anytime one comments on a thread or starts a thread.
"Open Forums" means outside the classified section, but honestly, none of us has time to go hunt for your posts to see where they are.
While we respect any membership of several years duration, the 20 post mark is an easy one to hit. Please just say "nice hat" somewhere and get to twenty, even if you've been here since FDR's third term.

Over the life of this forum, we've seen it go from a few guys talking about their hats and gear, to a place where so much content bloomed regarding the "Golden Era" that you could learn just about anything you wanted to know here. Vintage clothing and how to wear and accessorize. Movies, music, WWII, movie stars, tobacco, hooch, cars, vacuum cleaners, props, "clock" socks, shaving, safari gear--literally anything you can imagine. And a full, vigorous group of ladies who added to the discussion immeasurably.
Posts are now about hats and leather jackets it seems. We don't want it to go too far down the road to just being about classifieds, hence the new rule.
Members have helped by reporting violations. If you've posted something for sale without 20 posts and found it deleted, that is why.
We were amazed when we had 100 members. Now we're ***ning for 56,000 with more than three million posts. It has been quite a ride.
