My wife, while generally supportive of my hat wearing, will take the opportunity for a little chiding from time to time. I do have one funny story, one that endeared some of my family and friends to my hat wearing.

Last fall, my daughter was a sr in High school and was in the Junior Miss program. During the program, the dads had the honor of ******ing their daughters across the stage during the gown presentation and the question/answer part of the program.

Well, naturally, I bought a new hat for the occasion. The weeks leading up to the program, my wife thought that I surely would not wear the hat. My daughter, and all her friends, thought I should because, as they said "your dad always wears a hat, he would look weird without one".

Well, its the day of the event, and we have relatives from 3 states. My sis-in-law, my wife, and my daughter are in her room, getting the last of her stuff together when I walk into the room, dressed in my suit, wearing my hat. I gave my daughter the choice, "Hat, ...Head?, Hat,..Head? as I alternated from donning/removing the hat. All three voices, Daughter, wife, sis-in-law, in unison, rather loudly, HAT!, please.

Sometimes you just have to present the alternative.
If you've seen this bald head you would know what I mean!

Seriously, when I remind my wife of my dress habits before I started dressing nicer, all complaints are lost.

My wife was originally against the idea until I bought a lot of 20 and a lot of 6vintage ladies hats off ebay. She is fairly eccentric to begin with and now she can play dress up and have an appropriate hat at the...

My wife barely tolerates me normally, she is just more vocal about it when I have a hat on.lol I am slowly wearing her down though, and she admits at times the hats look good, though she says they make me look old. I let that remark slide lest she realize her own age

I am very lucky and thankful that my wife has totally accepted my fedoras, western hats, and vintage style. I dressed that way long before I met her and was dressed that way when we met so it's just how she knows me. One time, we were getting ready to go out and I tried on some "regular" clothes that my mother gave me. My wife took one look at me and said, "Put a hat on or something. You look just like everybody else."

I am one of the lucky ones...

My wife has actually bought me a couple of hats. She bought me my first Fedora 27 years ago. She has occasionally said she didn't care for what I wore with a hat, but I don't dress Retro so all I have to go on is my hats. Now days I only wear my Art Fawcett Stratoliner. It is the only hat she has commented positively on multiple occasions. Either way I am a lucky man.

While I am sure my wife doesn't want me to go crazy buying hats and she probably thinks I have enough of them, she doesn't often say much. Truth be told, she probably doesn't even notice my new hats. However, she does notice if I am dressed up and about to walk out w/o a hat on and she will say, "where's your hat". She has never known me not to wear hats.

As I say she doesn't hardly notice a new hat, she thinks many of them are similar, but at times she will say you should wear this one or that one instead of the one I pic. She is completely good though with my hats and being seen with me in public. IF we go out though it's almost always true that people know me, they come up and talk to me and they all know I am the guy with the cool hats.

All that said, I don't go out of my way to tell her I just ordered this or that new hat.

I am constantly asked what kind of ***s I collect. I respond, I collect concealable ***s. They say you mean you only buy ***s you will carry concealed? I say no I only buy ***s that I can take home and easily conceal from my wife knowing I just bought them.

My wife quietly tolerates most of my eccentricities, hats are no exception. She's not too thrilled about some of my choices, but that's more of a disagreement of fashion (as opposed to style). More "I don't like that colour" than "I don't like you wearing hats."

She's more opposed to the money I spend.

My wife isn't too thrilled about my new interest in hats. She is worried about spending money on foolishness, and she is a little worried about me looking strange. "Don't get a weird looking hat," she will say. By that she means one with a very tall crown, or a really wide brim. There is some cause to hope, however. I showed her a FL member's avatar, some woman in one of those 'flapper' hats, (no idea what those are called) and she thought it was really cool. So now I can just get her one of these, and we are on our way together.

My wife does not dress retro or in styles that are distinctly era, but has a strong belief that classics never go out of style. So her clothes, though modern, usually have a classic cut, and are stylish but never trendy.

She is very supportive of my new interest in hats. She has always said that the Akubra style hats that I wear backpacking were ***y. In fact, she was a little miffed at me for my recent Fed IV order because she had wanted to buy it for me. While I am sure she would complain if I started getting wild with my spending on hats, she has already asked what color and style I will order next.

I do think someone should start a dating website for people into vintage clothing or just fashion in general. Obviously it won't be on the fedora lounge as this is not the place for that."" I don't think there's enough of us out there... I think it would get watered down by hipster pop culture and the entire point of it would be lost. I think it's hard to meet girls too. As a 180, I've tried dating comparatively normal girls recently. It hasn't gone well. Somehow discussing the life and death of Lon Chaney, Sr. as how it poetically and tragically mirrored the changing times he lived in, doesn't rate for first date conversation. ****. lol

Oh and also, as a general rule, a guy should not out dress his date but compliment her. Which is hard to do today, I've actually made a clear attempt to dress down for dates!

No your self value, how important your "passion" is to you, and what are you willing to sacrifice for what you precieve as fulfillment.
