Off on R&R at the w/end to the Somme Battlefields...

Chaps and chappesses...

Just giving notice that my 2 i/c (Col.Z) will be taking the tiller over the next week as I tab/yomp around the battlefields of Northern France (The Somme in particular) for a few days and sample some fine wine and French home cooking. It's a hellish operation to be chosen for, but someone has to do the dirty jobs.

With it being the 90th anniversary this year (from 1916) and with my being an Ulsterman (from Northern Ireland, Co.Down) and having served with the Royal Irish Rangers; UDR; and Royal Irish Regiments, it's a poignant time to be going and I have mixed emotions/feelings about going to the memorial at Thiepval, as I know it will be an emotional occasion...

I'll be popping my head in from time-to-time up until this w/end, but just a heads up.

Your journey sounds fantastic. I hope those home cooked meals include some fois gras and lots of other French homemade delicacies. Most of all I hope you have time to relax and take in the beutiful scenes that will surroung you. Have a safe trip and take lots of pictures
