Pass The Hat Please

This hat has been claimed and is no longer available. Thanks for the interest.

This hat was languishing on eBay so maybe that means it belongs here. I’ve been the recipient of a lot of kindness here and I’m glad to pass this hat to a new owner:

Dobbs Twenty in 7 1/8 US. This is a more substantial winter weight felt and not the blow a crease into the crown type. It easily takes a dry crease and it has the Cavanagh/Felted/Guild brim edge that I love. The brim is 2 1/2 inches wide and the open crown is 5 1/2 inches tall.

I can ship it anywhere in the contiguous US for $18 or less. Overseas is possible too, but I’m not sure of the price and customs fees would be on you. Send me a PM if you’re interested.

I normally give hats (fedoras) to some of the older gentlemen in my congregation. They like the fedora but not the bowler. Anyway, I picked this up off eBay a few weeks ago. The seller was asking a ridicules price. I offered a ridiculously low price which was accepted. It turned out to be wool but is a nice hat. I already have a gray bowler so don't need it. The size is 7 1/4. I don't know anything about the maker or even the age. I have a friend who has an antique shop who I can give it to if there is no interest here. PM me if interested.

Over the last couple of months I've given away about 30 vintage hat boxes and 15 Art Fawcett hat boxes. I have about a dozen more vintage boxes and 5 Art Fawcett. I also have about 2 dozen white boxes like Mike Miller uses. The only caveat is I don't want to ship them. So, if you are in the Dallas / Fort Worth area let's meet up. Again, I can give these to my friend who has an antique shop if I don't move these in the near future.

This derby has been spoken for and is on its way to the new owner.

Have a piece of Little Rock history with this Dobbs. See more in the great Show Us Your Vintage Hat Store thread.

And now the beast, a bit of a workhorse Dobbs:

Specs:
5-1/4" Crown
2-1/4" Brim
3/16" Binding (symmetric)
2" Ribbon
115g Weight
I purchased this to be a foul weather hat. It was advertised as 7-3/8 but upon receiving it I discovered it's a 7-3/8 long oval. As such it fits too loose to serve its purpose, and I have since acquired an Akubra to be my primary rain hat. Disregard the 4-1/8 crown depth on the factory tag. I measured multiple times and I get 5-1/4. (Dad insisted on measuring three times! ;))

There is some shallow mothing throughout but due to the darker color it is rather inconspicuous. To me it appears a dark brown, but in certain lighting it appears more grey. The liner is pretty well worn but I left as is since it was meant to be a beater. Adds to the character in my opinion, but if you don't want it take it out.

Still plenty of life left in this hat and can serve a better purpose than sitting idle collecting dust.

For the life of me i can not understand how no one has claimed the Disney. Disney makes extraordinary hats that exceed many many competitors in felt and finish and they are not common.
This one is no exception.

I’m sure that the size is partly to blame. If it isn’t claimed soon I’ll switch it out with a stingy Knox in 7 1/4…maybe the larger size will help or maybe there are more stingy fans than I thought?

I have 5 Art Fawcett hat boxes and probably 20 white hat boxes like you get from Northwest Hats or Gannon Hats. But I’m not interested in shipping them. If you live in the Dallas / Fort Worth area ie North Texas hit me up.

How about a stingy? Here’s a US size 7 1/4 Knox Custom. The felt is a dark brown and the ribbon is black. 5 1/4” open crown and 1 7/8” wide brim with a Cavanagh/felted/Custom edge. No damage or issues and the sweatband is nice and supple. The felt is a mid-weight that can be dry creased but will need a bit of steam to really shape it. Send me a PM if you’re interested.

Some nice hats on here (and not sure why some are still available). This one is a nice brand, but it is small. Maybe someone you know would enjoy it. Anyway ... FREE (if you cover the actual cost of shipping). These hats start around $600 new.

Circa 1970 to early 1980s Texas Hatters western hat. Fur felt, but not sure if it is hare, beaver or a blend.

I think this is an older Texas Hatters hat what with Austin location and the taped (not sewn) seam on the sweat band.

7-3/8" x 6-1/8" opening -- 21.29" circumference -- or between a size 6-3/4 and 6-7/8.

3-1/2" brim and 4" crown as creased.

The leather sweat band is a bit stiff (I have not conditioned it) and I was not wanting to pull on it much to check behind the sweat band for any written info. There is no circumference written on the back of the seam tape.

No noticeable flaws in the fur felt, but needs a little cleaning and shaping. Can be reshaped with distilled water or steam. The hat band is missing (my wife kept it), but you can find one that works best for you.

And the Dobbs has found a new home. Looking forward to seeing it on the new owner in a week or two.
It took longer than a week or two thanks in part to Omicron. But anyway, it went to its new owner today. He was thrilled, almost as much as his wife. It is his first fedora but I feel pretty certain it won't be his last. I steamed it for him and set some creases. I have to admit, it was fun showing he and his lovely wife different looks.
