Anyone have the Rrl Alston roughout jacket ? Thoughts on it ?
I’m back and forth on it

Yeah I did buy one & it's thin goat suede, after I bought it I saw the Iron & Resin offering which is thicker & cheaper..
I'm always suspicious when they use terms like 'Roughneck',you know, when they fail to specify 'Full Grain Leather'..Iron & Resin stuff does appeal

Hi
Yeah I will take some pics of that, meantime I do have this one photo in my phone's files ..
I decided to size down to a 42,which didn't turn out to be a disaster but I think it's one for the warmer months of the year.
Also,my weight tends to fluctuate between eleven & twelve stone,so I think it's one to wear when I'm closer to eleven..
It"s irksome when you can't try a jacket on before you buy,I always wonder what it would of been. Like if I had sized the other way than I did heh..
The quest for the ultimate jacket continues on,with no end in sight..
The RRL I reckon would look good either way...looser or slimmer..
I don't like it to be too tight around the back/shoulders..44 is always a safe bet..
44 is what I've ordered the Simmons Bilt Ranch jacket in desert-I will post my findings when that arrives also

And the problem is, seemingly 90% of suede jackets these days seem to be based on Levi’s denim jackets and to be honest I find them really boring because they’re so ubiquitous, especially the type III. Actually I’m trying to find a replacement for my tan suede jacket because it’s a type III and I think it’s boring.

I really liked a Master & Supply (def. not FL-approved!) prototype they posted in their Instagram so I asked them and said they had no formal plans or ETA to release it.
I picked up a Master & Supply suede jacket awhile ago. Love it. Soft and supple and easy to wear. Beautiful shade of suede. And I've been looking at Iron and Resin too...kind of gone down the suede jacket rabbit hole. Did you end up getting an Iron and Resin Buffalo jacket?

Ah, yes I forgot to mention it here: I bought the Iron & Resin clone of the RRL Alston but returned it: it was too big and I would’ve liked to get the chance to try a smaller size but I got the impression that the pattern wouldn’t work that well on me. I didn’t like the suede that much either as it was on the thinner side, lighter than my two non-roughout calf suede jackets. I’m not a fan of super thick leathers (e.g. I’d never get a jacket in FQHHCXL) but I do like some heft on suede ones because suede is very pliable anyway.

Jacket looked nice though.

Thanks for the follow up. That's good info to know about the Iron and Resin suede jackets. They look very tempting. But that makes sense-their "Douglas" jacket looks like it tapers wide at the bottom. Kind of the opposite of the typical V shape Type 3 jackets. Probably wouldn't work well on me either. It's surprisingly difficult to find a good quality suede jacket that also fits well.

Is it possible to dress this up at all or does it really only go with workwear? I had been looking at the Drake's suede chore jacket which is more refined looking, but I like this length better and would definitely be harder wearing. Just wanted something I could dress up a little bit more than my other biker leather jacket.

Since my first posts here where I posted on how I was after a grail Roughout jacket ?
Well I also settled for the Lonestar from Master.
And I also bought one of those Alstons-not the blanket lined I&R one but the Chinese ‘Red Tornado one- it’s nice from the rear & sides but the shoulders I had to hemming tape shoulder pads into so may sell that.
Iron &Resin were great I thought- I bought two buffalo Roughout shirts from them (M & L),love them ,but I’ve a problem with them now for I bought a Klanarth shirt off them (like a flannel type western affair) & finally get an e mail saying that colours out of stock so I looked on the site & that shirt is NOT out of stock-I suspect they just didn’t want to give one of the last few away for 65 -now they want 107 pounds
It’s not the money it’s the principle & the mess about-Master just sent my stuff out immediately no problems no ransom threats from UPC or DHL demanding money..
I’d definitely use them again.
As far as I&R I find it really sad as a good customer to be treated that way.
And I don’t care if the usuals come on & attack me for describing my experiences- I tell it as it is ,subjectively& hopefully, objectively too. I replied to them courteously my thoughts & pointed out that it was indeed in stock but that I wouldn’t be paying 107 for something that processed or part processed for 65
I really was gonna buy the buffalo leather jacket they do with the zipper & embroidered pockets ..pretty nice. I just don’t like being bullsh***ed to like that for that sake of £42.
As for the pics they say they’re too large to upload so guess I’ll have to reformat them all to put up- I have a whole rails of stuff.
In fact it’s kind of embarrassing having bought too many jackets searching for a grail ..
Got there in the end though & ideally,it should make a few people happy.
Just got to avoid giving away nice jackets to ungrateful friends who leave them get ruined..
Learnt that one.
Also will swap one for an RRl Roughout ball cap
