Pre 1940s dress hats

    I found that Max Feiges was from Riga and learned hat trade their at his father's shop(see below). Feiges is a German surname so I am sure he was very familiar with Velour finishes so would be interesting know the Velour Hood/Stump source.

    Beautiful felt. The old longhairs definitely were the upper echelons of hat making.

    It's a great color too, it's a mix of brown/purple that i'm sure our modern hatters would kill to find the exact formulation of.

    The parade of exceptional hats deserves to be praised together. I took this as an example, but there are many hats that you have shown in these days of excellent quality and historicity. Congratulations and continue to show us these beauties!

    C D Klump, Philadelphia, latest info I can find is from The American Hatter 1915, when he was selling his machinery.

    No markings on the sweatband, which appears to have been replaced a long time ago. I’ve had the hat for 50 years.
