Remove heavy collar ring on horsehide A2

I have an older ELC house, horsehide A2. It had a heavy calogne smell as well as a heavy! black collar ring. I successfully washed the entire jacket in Wollite paying extra attention to the collar with a med/soft brush. It came out super after slow drying and wearing towards the end. The smell is 90% gone but it didn't touch the collar ring. Any ideas?

Is this on the lining? Leather? Both?

It's a body oil/grease stain. For the lining, you might try a mild de-greaser. Dawn dish detergent in water.
For the leather, this information has proved useful to many of our members. Remember to treat the hide with a good leather conditioner, such as Pecard's, afterward.

For the stink, probably just time in that warm Tuscon sun. But not if the leather is wet.

The other alternative would be a specialist leather cleaning. This service is often offered by dry cleaners but is not the same thing as regular dry cleaning. Would be a problem, though, if you had any artwork on the jacket, I should think. Unlikely to be cheap, also.

Just a thought but maybe the black collar ring is actually where the top spray finish has worn through to the super dark brown leather underneath from rubbing. I think those early Eastman jackets used spray finished leather instead of the aniline leather they use today.

If this is the case I'm not sure anything can be done but the "black" will eventually lighten up with additional wear. At least most of the smells went away. :) That's more important anyway.
