Replaced my Schott 613sh due to damage and the replacement has a couple of problems too. Please help!

So, I posted here a week or so ago about buying a new Schott 613SH and recieving one that has been damaged. Well, I got my replacement in the other day but have been moving and just got a chance to really look at it and its also damaged. The zipper is my main concern I’ve tried it on a couple times and the zipper is biting into the leather causing it to get caught and damaging the leather each time. Is this a common issue? There is also a small nick in the leather on the collar which I was willing to overlook until I noticed the zipper thing. Should I send it back again!? I really love this jacket. It fits me perfectly and the pattern is my favorite by far but these issues are frustrating me. What do you all think?

Yeah, its not so bad now but it will get stuck sometimes and I’ll eventually be using this as a riding jacket. Its taking off material every time it zips. And if it was used I think I could overlook it a bit more easily but for a full price new jacket I don’t know if I want to.

A lot of my cross zip jackets start to fade / age the most around the zipper. I can’t tell how much it is removing, but if it is just rubbing against it and taking off the top coat I would think that’s fine.

If it’s actually ripping out chunks of leather though, that’s a slightly different story

Yeah, I expect that to be one of quickest and most worn areas but yeah it seems to really be biting into it. Plus looking at my girlfriend’s perfecto from the 80s that was owned and heavily worn by a biker until she bought it off her there isn’t even close to the amount of damage thats on this one. Its a little deeper than the topcoat flaking off and it getting stuck there almost ever time it zips is really annoying. The last one didn’t have this issue but the leather was cut up pretty bad. I emailed schott to see if this is a normal issue or if they can exchange it and make sure that I get a good one. I feel a little overbearing but I think I just got unlucky. I probably will exchange it but wanted to hear if anyone with the same jacket had experienced this issue.

Zipper problems never get better with time; they only get worse. Eventually, the zipper will fail. And it will fail at the worst possible time. Probably on a ride out of town just after a ride in the rain when you really want that jacket off so you can get get dry and warm.

Eventually you will get the jacket off, but it will be unusable for the duration of that trip. Twenty years of riding in all conditions have given me wisdom far beyond my years. Get rid of that jacket now and replace it with a more user friendly one.

I don’t see anything wrong with the pic you’ve loaded of zipper. The second pic is not discernible as damage from what I can see. Maybe I’ve missed something but I don’t see any problems here.

Ton, it may be difficult to see from pics how the zipper behaves. If it bites into the leather it is not good.

Can you make a road trip to a store? Seems like you need to be your own quality control inspector.
Using a jacket shouldn’t be damaging the leather, that zipper would bother me.
The nick is just “leather is a natural product with imperfections” but the zipper is a no go.
