A "slightly used" hat may well have been a hot item in the early Depression era (although I'm not so sure the effects of the crash were yet being all that widely felt when that catalog went to press). Makes we wonder just how common it was to sell used items of attire back then. Outside of thrift and vintage stores, that's just not done these days, and hasn't been in my lifetime, which is now getting lengthier than I care to recall.

I'm diggin' that "Columbia" style. Got a coupla-three Columbia blocks and flanges around here. I assume they date from around the time of that catalog.

I'm halfway joking, but my first thought was maybe they were trade-ins on new hats. I haven't run across that practice before, but I couldn't figure out how else they would get that many used hats to wholesale.[huh]
