I tried on the SP611 jacket. Size XL is not far off from my 618 size 44. The length is good and short. However, the hem is too wide for how short it is. It needs to be a little more tapered in my opinion to be this length. The size charts reflect this but I still wanted to see if it would work.

Even without the underarm footballs the pattern has pretty good range of motion. More so than the 613s pattern in my opinion. This may be due in part to the leather and liner.

The liner is thin polyester type fabric, with no insulation or quilting. Makes the jacket go on easy and I guess leaves more room for layering or moving around.

The leather looks promising , has nice grain, but feels very lightweight. I would much prefer their standard steerhide or horsehide or naked cowhide. If you are looking for a comfortable lightweight leather maybe you would like it.

Overall I’m not crazy about the fit or the leather and the price is too high. (I have all the same complaints about the 568 “vandals” jacket, which I also wanted to like) Trying this on makes me really appreciate my 618 and 118. The patterns on the 118 and 618 work really well for me and Schott’s standard steerhide and naked cowhide are hard to beat.

Makes sense!

Really is bizarre for now phenomenal IMO the pattern and the leathers for the 613/618 and horsehide versions are, so many of the one-off versions feel even more overpriced and almost always a much worse pattern.

The Shinki stuff they've had is great, and the recent brown horsehide was pretty great. But most everything else feels much cheaper than the mainline classics by comparison.

The Freehold is an absolute joke compared to the original East West jacket!
I can’t imagine a more watered down, tepid, perfunctory piece of **** attempt. Wrong color, wrong collar and lapel. Awful.

What a huge missed opportunity. Schott made some really cool 70’s styles but this is *****-fied and safe as to be a genuine insult to the senses. In other words, I don’t like it.
Edit. Looking at it closer it’s even worse than I first thought. This looks like a 5 Star Pakistani made, Frank Booth, Blue Velvet rip-off. The price should be sub $100 and come with a plastic airline barf bag. I can’t fathom why they would put this out when in the past they have created some of the coolest 70’s designs imaginable. They need design help, or at the very least some of their own damn archives.

Always cool to log in to the lounge to find out I have no taste. Pretty stupid of me to like the look of the freehold

Do you need a tissue? Of course you are free to like whatever you want and my opinion is based on the fact that the jacket looks absolutely nothing like the original jacket Springsteen wore. Doesn’t take much more than a functioning set of eyeballs to see that.

Hey big fella, as they say in Australia,

Stop beating around the bush and say what you really think haha...

From a Schott fan downunder, ( but not that particular jacket haha...)

I really wish they would’ve let it fly and not pull punches with a safe design. I would’ve bought it in an instant. Probably three times over. LOL.

I concur as an owner of one of Tony's 70s Schotts. They're genuinely impressive and both fans and the company should highlight this stuff as much as they do the motorcycle jackets.

I think they were trying to hedge their bets on the hippie leather by toning down after the Grateful Dead collab jackets basically didn't sell at all, but they're taking the wrong lesson.

The problem with the Grateful Dead jackets was that they were more or less standard jackets with Grateful Dead patches, not that they went too into 70s fashion.

(Props for making the Springsteen Perfecto actually look like a late 70s Perfecto at least.)

Possibly. Ironically, I quite liked the textile GD Perfecto in the tie dye effect, but would never have bought it with that branding on it. (Not a fan of any logos; I chose not to buy a Schott peacoat in recent years because the 740Ns they sell in the UK & EU, while otherwise identical to the US market version, have an exterior chest logo.) It could be that a couple of the models on this line will suffer for falling between two stools: too toned down for those who like those particular 70s styles, and for the rest of us generic enough that there's no real reason to pony up for the Schott price when a very similar original period jacket can be had cheap.

I do like both the straight zips and the Perfecto type. Probably not enough to pay Schott prices for them, though if one turned up at a silly cheap price that was a good fit.... Similar to the Vandals model.

Be interesting to see how this line sells; it'll certainly get a lot of attention with Springsteen being a big brand. I'm sure Schott's marketing team are on the case. And we know they're persuasive... I mean, half the world now thinks Brando wore a Schott because they said he did, right? ;)

The Schott Springsteen collection is inspired by the jackets worn in the movie "Deliver me from nowhere". All the jackets in this collection are inspired by jackets worn in the movie (except the Cross Zip I think, that i don't remember seeing in this film, seems inspired by a famous Springsteen photo.).

These jackets sold by Schott are reproductions of jackets worn in the movies, which don't look really like the ones the boss wore in the 70s. The movie happens in the first years of the 80s, so it is not the same hippie style you could see in the middle of the 70s.

To me, these jackets look alright, but they are mostly on the expensive side. Around 1200$ is a bit much, you can expect around 1500 € in Europe ! I think they will be limited runs, I may be wrong... If the Grateful Dead collection seems to have remained in their stock, the collaboration with the movie "The Bikeriders" was more successful.

I'd have expected the Vandals jacket to be the bigger seller; my guess would have been it would have a much greater appeal to those who like the style anyhow. The Dead jackets were, I think, a more niche aesthetic and once branded with Grateful Dead logos, limited further as merchandise. That's the case here in the UK, of course, where I don't think the Grateful Dead have ever been a "thing" to the extent they would be in the US.

Always slightly surprised Schott have never gone in for doing a Perfecto with the Ramones logo on the back of it. I can see that selling to fans and non-fans, what with the legend that the boys sold more shirts than they did albums. There was a fad over here about twenty-five years ago for teenage girls wearing t-shirts bought from a big chain with Ramones and Motorhead logos on them. A lot of the buyers of those shirts weren't initially aware they were bands (though some I'm sure went on to discover them musically), but they sure made a few folks a lot of money.

Huh, I never thought of Springsteen in terms of fashion & I don't recall ever seeing a photo of him wearing anything noteworthy, particularly not in leather, other than the usual 70's / cowboy getup.

I would say it was not as long ago (also Iron Maiden, ***s N Roses, Judas Priest, Nirvana and more) but I would also say this "made a comeback" the last couple years.

It can be worse. This is what I came across last week:

(For those who don't know this album, released in 1985 - or was it 1986? - is a milestone in brutal thrash metal)
