I got the DVD today..on sale at Best Buy for $16.99.
We saw this in the theatre..and I love the look of the clothing, and hats.
The straw hats were made by my friend Art Fawcett at Vingage Sillhouettes. He also has the felt hat worn by Jeff Bridges and the other actors. He supplied those thru the costumer for the film.

ENJOY!

Seabiscuit

Kevin at OPTIMO mentioned to me once that they had been approached to do the hats for Seabiscuit but were give short notice and had to decline the offer. He said they figured they could not produce so many "good quality hats" in such a short timeframe. They must have been real busy at the time. He said when they accepted the offer to do the hats for Road to Predition they were given ample time to make the quality hats they are acustomed to making.

However, I am sure Art Fawcett at Vingage Sillhouettes did a fine job. As far as I can tell the hats look great in the movie. I especially liked Jeff Bridges grey fedora.

I am also going to buy the DVD today!!

Gray Fedora on Jeff Bridges

The hat worn by Jeff Bridges in Seabiscut wasn't made by Art...it was rented. It is a vintage hat...and it is NOT a pristine one at that. You can't tell on camera...but when you hold it in your hands...it is one you 'd probably decline on Ebay!!!

He did make the straws however...

And I forget, the hat Jeff wore was either a 7 1/2 or bigger. He has a big noggin.

Hats for Seabiscut

Also.....Optimo did not do the hats for Seabiscut because the costumer was on a tight budget and didn't want to spend the money... It was cheaper to rent the hats, which is what Art does...he did many films and rents and sells vintage clothing. He did "catch me if you can" "Titanic" Legend of Bagger Vance" ....lots of films

After "speaking" with Fisk yesterday, I too got the deluxe edition of the DVD for my wife for Christmas. One of the extras I found extremely interesting was that they have the original footage of the big race. It'll be great to see vintage footage... especially since Pimlico is not that far away from me. It'll be nice to see it in it's heyday and not the rundown slum surrounded place it is today.

Just after the movie opened, either TLC, History or Discovery channel ran a special "the true story of Seabiscut..."
I think there were a couple of versions running arounnd thesame time.
I had/have not seen the film yet, but was intrigued by the story.
And if you like the movie, i hear the book is excellent!

Wow. That settles it for me. I'm getting it too.

So are all the DVDs not the same? I keep hearing y'all mention a DELUXE version. My aunt sent me the DVD with the Best Buy Exclusive book but she got me the Full Screen (pan and scan) version. I'm sure movie buffs are feeling my pain. I can't exchange it because Best Buy no longer has the Widescreen that comes with the book available. I told my mom if she buys Seabiscuit that she should get the Widescreen and we can trade. (She's not a fan of Widescreen.)

Holly, I'm feeling for you!

I've just laid down the law, just don't get me any movies that wern't made before 1955. The vast majority of movies made back then have the same aspect ratio and I'm just too tired of trying to educate folks on the evils of "Full-Screen".

When you tell people they're getting cheated because they're paying full price for only 2/3rds the movie... that sort of ends the arguement!

No. Aside from the pan and scam, the deluxe DVD includes all that are in the regular DVD plus another disc of extras. More behind the scenes stuff and the actual race between Seabuscuit and War Admiral. It's packaged in a red faux leather box with just a small pic of the poster art on the front. It retails for $35.

WOW...my name is all over this thread!. I'm flattered by the attention. First, Andykev is right, Jeff's grey hat is a Penny's Marathon open road style that I normally would pass on buying except the great size. It's a 7 1/2. I would never try to sell a hat in it's condition. It is right on the borderline for renovation, but not bad enough to spend the time.
As for Optimo participation, I tried to get Graham and the costumer together for months but they didn't seem to connect until much later in the process and by then it was too much too fast. She also was at the end of her budget so it didn't happen.

Thanks MK, I met MattDeckard at the last Vintage Expo show in Santa Monica and was encouraged to visit. I'm glad I did.
One note though, I've never been part of an online discussion so if I goof up, set me straight..OK?
