BTW I would think (by the masurements and the label), the one in red&gold is later - late 60's!? What do the others think?

Thanks y'all I like these ties a lot . It's actually kinda a burnt orange color the first tie . Looks red on the pics though . You think it's late 60s?

These are all re-runs, but since it's been so quiet around here - and since there was some discussion elsewhere of the relative merits of tie collecting - I thought I'd post up some of my Western themed ties. These are all 40s/50s era.

But I think they're younger. The orange one is mid/late 60's, when ties became wider, I would say.
The yellow one I'm not shure: in 1980's they imitated the 50's...
But maybe I'm wrong. What do the others think?

That's not good. I may have bulked up in the last year or two, but he has all those "cop" skills.

Still, I would love to have any of those, but hope you live long enough that you have to leave one to my great-grandkids.

The yellow one I am positive is pre-80s because of the feel it is very thin material it feels like a 40s tie but the tag makes it obviously later than 40s.

Here's the one I got today - for free!
Not only nice but also interesting:
German tie - certainly 1930's - burgundy with white framed black stripes - very lightweight silk fabric - 3 1/2" x 50" (a shorty)

And with two labels!

The first label is by LACO (Lavy Company):
Fastuni already wrote about them: "a Hamburg-based company founded by a British Jew named Charles Lavy in 1838 as a silk manufacturer. It is the oldest tie manufacturer in the world! So that's why there's written in the last line: "made of a Tootal product"

Second the merchant label: Max Vierkant - Potsdam - also with LACO emblem!

While finding vintage ties is always a learning experience, this one was more of a learning experience than I had bargained for.
Usually it can be quite hard to date the age of a tie, so you can imagine my surprise when I found that this tie had a date on it, and down to an exact day too (Feb. 27, 1923). The patent number that followed lead to greater insights however. I searched the "PAT. NO. 1,447,090" and got this: http://www.google.com/patents/US1447090 . The wording is slightly messed-up from when they transcribed it digitally, but it can be read easily enough and offers some insights into the evolution of the necktie.

As for the tie itself, the date corresponds to the patent number, and so I figure that the tie is later than that day, I'm guessing late 1920's?

Also, I'm sorry for my lack of recent activity. I've been keeping tabs though and have been greatly enjoying many of the ties posted. I have several recent finds, but I just haven't had the time to photograph/catalogue/post them. I aim to start posting more items as soon as possible though.

Isn't the date just the patent date and not specifically the date of the tie itself?
