Thanks, mrcairo, Charlie et. al. I am quite happy with my new Borsalino. Speaking of an abundance of riches, I received, on the same day, the following Borsalino. 50's I believe. A smaller brim and a heavier felt than the earlier one, but still a wonderful hat.

Great hat Bruno! I'm thinking about getting a modern Borso Alessandria. Does anyone on here have one and if so, how do you like it?

rclark, all my Borsalinos are from 1967 and earlier. I've heard tell that the new Borsos just aren't the same.

Hey, y'all, anyone have a clue as to when Borslinos cost $10. See pics below.

I would love to check out the earlier Borsos. I have a new Borso and I love it.

Borsalino Grand Prix Marca Columbo XXX

This was a recent find. I've been looking for a velour Borsalino and finally one showed up. This one is in great shape and the felt is fantastic. Velour is hard to take photos of and capture the luster of the felt so this is the best I could do with my IPhone. The hat has a 2 1/2" brim with raw edge, 5 3/8" crown with 1" grosgrain ribbon, oilskin protective liner cover and reeded leather sweatband. I believe this is a European market Borso and is from the 40s. If anyone cares to weigh in on this I would appreciate it. Incidentally the American market Borsos I own have unreeded sweatbands and the European one have reeded sweatbands. I don't know if this is the norm or not. This is also the first Marca Columbo I've owned. The manufacturers' tag behind the sweat says "Amarena" (color) and what looks like "Eolespo." The English translation for Amarena is (sour) black cherry which fits the color of the hat. I can't find an English translation for the other word which I'm not sure if I'm writing the word correctly. Maybe someone here can guess what the other word is so it can be translated to English.

Very nice XXX Colombo. Probably early 1950s but if you like late 1940s I wouldn't quibble. Most Borsalino model names defy internet translation.
