The greatest train robbery of all time - Dordogne 1944

With the recent demise of Ronnie Biggs I'd thought I'd mention a story about the greatest train robbery of all time.
Seriously needing funds to continue the fight against the Germans, in July 1944, the Resistance in the Dordogne (S.W. France) aided by local railway workers, decided to hold up a train transporting 150 sacks of bank notes weighing in at 6 tons. In total they made off with 2, 280, 000, 000 francs which in today's money would be more than 370 million pounds. The money was legitimately used to aid the fight against the Germans, but of course that has not stopped rumours on where all the money went.

Thanks for posting that tale. I imagine that it took a lot of discipline in the face of the acquisition of so much money.
