tie stretcher?

what the devil is a tie stretcher?
I saw one at an antique store recently. Looked very old, made of metal, shaped like a triangle. Labeled "german necktie stretcher"

why would you want to stretch a tie?

pardon my ignorance, but I've just never heard of such a thing.

I just know of vintage tie presses, maybe the sellers labelled it wrong?

dunno- I googled tie press, and I'm getting wood things you stick a tie in.
This thing was about 1/16th of an inch thick, maybe a foot/ foot and a half long, and shaped like a triangle with squared off ends. It might have had increments running up it, but I'm not sure. It just struck me as a very funny looking piece of equipment.

i think ties were stitched inside out, and had to be reversed before finishing. This thing could have been inserted in one end and used to facilitate outside-out-ing the tie.
