There's a law that applies here -- one that's been proven true again and again: the longer any cable channel exists, the further it will be sucked toward the inevitable lowest common denominator of programming. So far the only exception to this rule has been TCM, and even that channel has shown evidence of creeping meatballism over the past five years or so. TV Land is only following the pattern laid out for it by its predecessor -- anyone who watched Nick at Nite in the late '80s/early '90s has seen this all happen before.

Never in my wildest TV-loving dreams would I think that 98% of all vintage TV shows wouldn't have a broadcast outlet. These shows were everywhere on TV when I was a kid. Both on primetime and in syndication. I sure miss 'em.

I cancelled my extended/digital/overpriced cable yesterday. I now only have basic, which saves me $40.00(!) a month.

I recall growing up (in the US) in the 70's/80's with 5 or 6 channels on something, and I remember watching a lot of those older shows. Another thing I remember as was much much more variety in programming, obscure stuff that I've not seen the like of since with the hundreds of useless channels that are on. Rest assured, the same thing has happened over here in the UK. We used to have, for example, Film Four, which used to be a serious "film buffs" channel, which now shows "Big Momma" and Adam Sandler flicks, and Bravo, in the past a quirky haven for obscure horror and exploitation, now pandering to the lager-swilling lad's mag crowd. Lowest common denominator, you bet.

I'd give up every channel if I could just have one which showed classic cinema and telly.

The A-Team, Knight Rider and Airwolf are my idea of great classic television. Sadly, there's only one program worth watching, in my opinion, on all of television right now, and that's Mythbusters. I pretty much only watch purchased movies now. Television programming just doesn't really entertain me.

I certainly agree with all of you. However, it would be impossible for AMC,TCM,TV Land, etc to schedule programming within the limits of a 24 hour day that will satisfy everyone. Considering TV has been around for decades,everyone is going to have a favorite show that they want to bo about to see. I do think the network are doing the best they can, but they can do better.

What TV Land does now is they have about 6 consecutive hours of Andy Griffith on straight almost every day. Now I like Andy and all, but why can't they have, say, Leave it to Beaver on at least once a week? Or maybe the Lawrence Welk show? Or even the Outer Limits?

I haven't had satellite television in close to four years, doesn't sound like I'm missing much. TV Land was my favorite network, hate to hear all this.
