Ooooh, nice!

My land lord used to have a '50 Packard four door. It was aqua green. The interior was all original, the wood grain dash was perfect, and the paint was oxidized really good. So, he buffed out the paint and had a really nice car!

He sold it at Pomona and then bought a 1941 Chrysler convertible.

The late 40's and early 50's Packard?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s are great high way cars!

The Packard is totally original including headliner and upholstery except for the driver seating area. It has newer paint, chrome and radials but otherwise is the same as 1950 mechanically and cosmetically.

I have a '65 Nova that still needs restoring/rebuilding and I have a line on a 1930 Marmon I might acquire.

Here's my 1973 Z-28 that I bought new and recently restored.

Say, do you ever make it out to Bob's on Friday nights? You should bring the Packard out some time to Bob's. I could meet up with you there with my MoPar and we could talk cars some time.

Wild Root- where is the Bob's- what town? Here's a link to Southern California clubs and the cruise-ins and events too. http://www.socalcarculture.com/index.htm

Graverobber- Oh, the 63 is my all time fav Vette! Good luck with it!

Michaelson- A decent paint job or even rubbing out old paint will do wonders for any car.

Right now I'm having problems with brake light due to ancient wiring. A new wiring harness (what it really needs) is probably the only cure. I hate to drive much with faulty brake lights since too many people are looking at the car and not at brake lights on the best day when they are working.

One guy that has a nice black 38 Buick puts his fedora on the seat and a pair of replica Thompson sub-machineguns with it during cruise-ins in nice weather.

Problem is I HAVE no paint on the car...just black primer (though the fendors are currently painted red for a color test). That's why your paint job just makes that car 'snap' in appearance. :)

Oh, and you best consider an LED type brake light upgrade if that's your thought, as no matter what you do to your current brake light system, rest assured they'll be looking at the car, and missing your brake lights, regardless of how well they're working. I avoid being rear ended at least once a week myself, and my lights DO work!

Regards! Michaelson

Twitch, Bob's is on Riverside Drive in Burbank. It's known as Bob's 49! It was the last one built in the 40's and the last one from the 40's standing! It starts around 4 or 5 I think. Not sure but, lasts till 7 or 8. Depends on how cold it gets.

Would like to see you guys out there!

PS. The food isn't the best, but, it sure isn't the worst!;)

I have a 1934 Hudson 8 Victoria that I'm restoring. It's a bit of a rarity here in the UK - and probably in the States too.
I'll post some pics soon.
It's got real mid-30's swanky lines, mid way between the old "square rigger" look of earlier years and the late 30's potato cars.
The '34 Hudson 8 was Dillinger's favorite too. He was driving one when they captured him in Tucson in January 1934 !

Oh my, a 1934 Hudson? How cool is that! Sure love to see a photo or two!

Love those early 30's cars! They all had class! Has any one ever seen a 1932 Chrysler Royal? They look like Duesenberg?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s!

Well ANY paint is going to look good on that 50 Plymouth then!

I know that Big Boy on Riverside. Right near there is a dry cleaners that specializes in vintage clothes and they do lots of stuff for movie studios. My daughter got married in a vintage dress and it was cleaned there. I don't think I'd head up there till I can sort out brake lights but would love to! The LED idea is good too.

Hey Old Fogey 34 Hudsons are a might rare here too but there are lots of the 40s-50s at reasonable prices. You'll have a unique car indeed when it's done.

OK so how about this a 1938 Delahaye

Yes, those are great! Just some out standing lines on that baby! What happened to style? Where did it go and why has no one ever tried to bring it back to auto design?

Another classic I just adore is the 1939 Chrysler Royal!

This one is for sale right now in Santa Monica for $29,000!

Interesting it looks like the Graham Hollywood---the grille does anyway. The Graham Hollywood was Graham Paige's attempt to "save" the Cord. The body looks quite like a Cord but the Cord's were faster vehicles with the Lycoming V-8. I have no idea whose idea it was to put a 6 in it for that price.
The Lycoming with the supercharger was a FAST car for its time. If you wanted to out run a cop---you could easily do it. Such was the case with a friend of the family in these parts all those years ago---before the police radios. ;)

Regards to all,

J

Yeah, I see a little likeness but, not much. The Chrysler looks better to me.

Say, does any one know what that blue car is in the background? Any one want to guess?

Thanks for the compliments about the Hudson. Santa (aka my wife) is bringing me a digital camera for Christmas, so I'll post pictures after that.
I used to have a 39 Dodge that looked like the 39 Chrysler in your pic. That was a nice car too.
Given my choice, I'd like a 35 Studebaker Dictator (crazy name, crazy car) but, most of all, a Cord sedan or its lookalike the 41 Graham Holywood.

No, it's not Jenny but it is a 46-48 Plymouth P-15! Good guess Mr. H!

The Graham Hollywood's are interesting cars. I like the early Cords better my self. Also, the 1938-1939 Graham "Spirit of Motion" is a top choice!

Yep, the 39 Dodge had a lot of the same styling of the Chrysler of that year. I love Chrysler/MoPar products! Good drivers and reliable! Those 95 horse power flat heads are one of the most reliable motors ever built!

Here is a photo of my wreck and a 1939 Graham.

Enjoy,

I'd actually prefer a Graham Hollywood to the Cord (no front wheel drive and therefore easier maintenance, also better parts availibility (kinda!)). I've never been to keen on the Graham Sharknose, a bit - dare I say it ? - strange to my tastes.
Mind you, if you want to see 30's streamlined car that's really gone up a blind alley style-wise, do a Google picture search for the Panhard Dynamic of 1936-39. Only the French could have come up with that one !
