A friend gave this to me. Don't know for sure what it is.
Looks decently old, has a fake leather sweatband like my other '40s wool fedoras, especially the redish-brown color. 100% wool, the crown is stiff but the brim is not. Has a regular brim, not pencil curled which leads me to believe it was meant to be snapped down.
What say you? Era? Type of hat? Novelty tophat?
Edit: after a search, it appears that Planar-Merino made novelty wool hats back in the '40s, maybe the '50s. So, I guess I answered my own questions.
A neat hat, though. I like it.
