Here are a few pictures of my fellow Hoosier Ernie Pyle, probably the most famous of all WWII war correspondents. His former home in Dana, IN is a museum that I've visited. There are many more photos here:

I believe the go-to guy here at the Lounge on anything pertaining to war correspondents is p51.
Aw shucks. Yeah, I have what would be consdered by some as a good collection:

I'm also probably the only fully accredited war correspondent in the hobby today as I'm a staff writer/cartoonist for WW2 re-enacting magazine. At this time, I'm compiling info for what I know will be the book on uniforms and equipment of the US correspondents of WW2 (easy to say as none others have been written yet). If you'd like a PDF copy, I wrote an article on correspondents with lots of photos, I can e-mail it to anyone who'd like to see it. Just PM me with your e-mail address.
I have a thread here with some of my collection: http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?34205-WWII-US-War-Correspondent-Collection-Impression
For original pics, you can look here at a small collection I'm putting together online:

And if you're looking for info for a re-enacting impression, this is really the best place to look and ask questions: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WarCos/

P-51,

I was going to post that he should contact WillysMB over at USMF but I now suspect you are one in the same. True?

Yes, that’s me. Like many people here, I’m several different forums. I’m “P51” on all of them where someone else hadn’t grabbed that login first. I have a thread with some photos of my collection there: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16734 Also, I have a portion of my own website with the text of my Army Motors article, but not a lot of photos from it: http://www.freewebs.com/willysmb44/warco.htm

I have a lot of period and collection photos here, including the front and back of a late war correspondent's ID card in my collection: http://s6.photobucket.com/albums/y205/WarCo/?start=all
it might give you a better idea as to how to mark your helmet as that cavas cover isn't anything like you'd see in WW2.
