So are these not much better than a baseball cap? Would junk come to mind or are they that bad? Are these hats or glorified round cardboard boxes?

Those are hats you wear into the arena that you don't mind if the horse or bull steps on if it comes off your head or you come off your ride!

You just have to remember the limitations of wool. If you get it wet it will most likely shrink and possibly loose it shape.

If you want to get more mileage out of a wool hat give it a shot of “Scotchgard” every few months or so. You can get a can at Wal-Mart. It makes the hat water resistant for a little bit of rain (walking from a car to a building in the rain) but if you are going to be out in a rain storm, I would use another hat.

Hi Duke, The hat in the picture was in 3 inches of Rain in about an hour, and it shrunk.
