Hey everyone!
Last week, moon posted a Berg velour he found at an estate sale. He sent it to me, as it is a well documented fact that I am a fool for a nice velour.
It arrived yesteday. I knew little about Berg, just that they were around a long time and ar some point were under the HCA umbrella. Out of all my velours (with the exception of my 20's Marathon) are all post-war velours, and vary in softness. My incredibly scientific method for testing is my cheek and fingertips, BTW. All the softest are finished completely in Europe, while all the coarsest are finished in America. Not so this Berg. The velour used rivals that of my Anton Peschels, which is saying a lot. Hard to make the comparison without handling both, but velour fans would understand. It approaches the quality of my Borsalino velours and my 50's Lembert, which I consider to be the softest and nicest feeling one that I ave, though tat may change when my seal velour arrives...
Anyway, it sized up easily. I was considering changing the band to a ribbon, but the more I handled it the more the one on it grew on me.
Found two size tags under the sweat, but they are unfamiliar and not the HCA tags

Oh I heard someone lost an old friend over te weekend...am I late for the mmemorial?
If so, that's OK, I'll just sway back and forth for several hours to the jam band in my head. That's what I was going to do regardless....
