The ebay Optimo panama arrived today and, despite my concerns with the first time seller's terrible photos and very low shipping price, things have turned out well. With a 4" brim (flattened) and a crown that's 4.5" at the pinch, this is tied for the most serious (or comical) hat I own. Price wise, this is probably the low end of Optimo's panamas, but it's just the sort of thing I needed: a big, fairly inexpensive Summer hat.
I was also concerned about the size. While advertised as a 7 5/8, there's no size tag in the hat. I haven't measured it, but I'm confident that it's at least a 7 5/8, if not a 7 3/4.

If you and your wife share the same hat size, she'd also look great with the brim turned down, the way you have it.

As it happens, my eBay "Newt at the Royal" Optimo got here today and I'm very pleased. I picked it up from the Post Office at lunchtime and been wearing it ever since. If only the Montecristi I bought from Optimo last year had been as nice as this one, I wouldn't have needed to ask Art to make it into a Dualist!
