Today I wear a pristine '50s Stetson Royal Deluxe long-oval porkpie with a wind trolley and rear bow, which the Postman was kind enough to deliver yesterday.

One of my favorite parts of hat collecting is learning the history of the industry and the particular hats that I own. So, I looked into the Eddie Jacobson's Menswear shop out of Kansas City where that was originally purchased to find out a bit about the hat's origin and travels.

It turns out that Eddie Jacobson was Harry S. Truman's close friend and they were business partners back in the teens and twenties. They owned a haberdashery together that went belly-up in the late twenties. In '45, Jacobson opened his store which lasted until his death in '55.

Upon Jacobson learning of the horrors of the Holocaust, he was integral in getting his long-time friend and then President, Truman to throw more US support behind the creation of the Israeli state.

I have included a photo of Jacobson and Truman together at Jacobson's shop taken shortly after the start of Truman's presidency.

Back to the hat... Very soft felt. I love the way that different light sets off different shades of greys and blues.

Roger--I don't think I would have been able to hold off that long. Great looking Dobbs, and it looks to be in good shape, too.

Matt--thanks for the history lesson. I often wonder what stories these old hats could tell. Was that the ebay hat? I had my eye on it, but I'm not sure a pork pie would suit me.

Che--hope you're keeping warm. It doesn't look too cold there with the Calla lily and all. I still have greenery around the house even though it was in the low twenties a couple of night here this last week.

too cold for me at home in CoCo county

Che--hope you're keeping warm. It doesn't look too cold there with the Calla lily and all. I still have greenery around the house even though it was in the low twenties a couple of night here this last week.

That's the deal here isn't it--you go to the coast to warm up in the winter and you go to the coast to cool off in the summer. The horsehide and mouton was a necessity this morning. I'm going to head south in about a week, looking forward to a little LA weather.

Started the day with en Elosegui 12" beret

Later switched to some more serious cold weather gear, my wife borrowed my larger 14.5" plato grande beret to wear. With her smaller head size she can easily pull it down over her ears.

GD, honestly you can't go wrong with one of Jonathan's caps. His work is just fantastic. I really couldn't give you details on the fabric for today's cap, other than it's wool and vintage. If you place an order with him, he will go through the different fabrics he has so you can pick one.

It seems to be always changing (I think he has very small quantities of some) so you really don't know what he'll have when it's your turn.

I love the Vita Felt!

Thanks on the comments on the Dobbs this morning guys. Like Casechopper, I too had a multi-hat day. The afternoon was spent in my Pecan VS (no pics of that one) and the evening was spent working in my storage unit in my Penman. Can't wait to see everyone's Sunday hats tomorrow, good night!

I take one day off from the Lounge and I miss a great parade of fedoras! Roger - does Art ever make a hat that isn't amazing? I can hardly wait to get out to New Mexico in a couple weeks and have my VS Anasazi get some serious head time. Your Pecan is of course perfect.

It's quite snowy here in Cleveland, my wife and I remembered why we're thinking of moving to warmer climes.

Wearing my early '50s Borso that was sold in our very own downtown Cleveland Higbee Store (unfortunately, the store is long gone and is now a casino).
