Thanks, that’s high praise indeed! Getting there I think—just need to shift a few more to get a slightly more focused rotation. Coincidentally today I wore my lone straight zip, a somewhat battered Cal(?). Great jacket, but I can’t help feeling it’s missing something… diagonal?

Inspired by an ex-member of the forum who posted an absolutely brilliant 1970's look elsewhere, I figured I'd at least try to improve my game.

1970's wool suit, made in Poland (PRL, at the time). Although, I altered it as much as my skill with a needle and a thread allowed me; I took in the body of the jacket, lengthened the sleeves, narrowed them slightly and turned the cuffs from decorative into surgeon's. Oh, and I added pick-stitching because it is so meditative and relaxing.

Trousers were tough - Had to get rid of the flares without sacrificing the 70's vibe. Narrowed the whole seat, waist, etc. Lengthened them, too. I know they are too long but same as sleeves, I like them that way.

Early 90’s—I haven’t worn it that much but apparently the previous owner (not necessarily the first) wore it “all the time”. That’s comp-weight for you!

There is actually one very broken-in panel which you can see on my shoulder in the left of the image. One day the rest might catch up…

Briefly today my Aero leather "Cossack" in seal goatskin. Purchased from Thurston Bros through the excellent Holly around 2014. I don't see this model being listed on Aero's site anymore, and I have a feeling they were phasing it out when I ordered it. It's literally nothing but their 1930's half belt model, without the back yolk, no chest pockets, and a throat latch. The Aero cossack came with the vintage-style hookless zipper as standard, but I was able to talk Holly out of that, and had them install a regular Talon. I also had them add shoulder gussets to improve the mobility of such a trim fitting garment. However the gussets they added don't go far enough below the arm, and are so shallow that their effect is minimal. This is an impressively sturdy jacket, and so far it's been effectively waterproof.

Oh so do I! In many ways I think they’re an even more pure and purposeful design than the cross zips. But my particular sickness is that while I admire all kinds of jacket styles and colours on others or on the hanger, I would somehow always rather be wearing a black cross zip…

Modified ‘94 Schott 618 today! My first and now only remaining Schott and many jackets later I’m beginning to realise that trying to find a Perfecto I prefer is a fool’s errand…
