Yes, and I learned a lot for his posts: oversized jackets don't look good. I had kind of shared his views about fit until those photos.
Actually I'm not sure why you'd would post a jacket being worn and not expect fit feedback. If comment on the jacket only is expected then maybe just post the jacket. Or photos from the maker's website.
When someone is wearing a jacket it is really hard to see just the jacket and not how it works for the person.
Great thread, probably overdue. I don't think everything needs to be sugar coated too much. There are so many valued opinions on here, it's such a great resource. I guess it's just every now and then someone chimes in with a pretty blunt, brutal, and oft unnecessary observation. I like the idea of asking questions about various stitching,or pockets or zips and getting some decent feedback. I think a bit of empathy is the key. Like a Few guys here have said, don't ask questions you don't want the answers to.

Your jacket is much shorter than mine. In fact, JC told me that, when adding length to the jacket, he should have lowered the pocket, and that is why my original pocket was too high. Thus, your pocket is a good height based on the length of your jacket.

I think I was one of the first to mention the pocket problem on the Imperial. Why? Because it jumped right out at me and I know Superfluous is big enough to take such a comment in the constructive way it was meant. If people post jackets here and place 'restrictions' on what may be said, I just ignore the thread. The Lounge is a shared pool of knowledge. It looks at the good, the bad and the iffy, and all examples provide members with a guide on navigating what is fraught and expensive hobby. As long as things are done in a respectful and considerate manner, I don't think there's too much harm done.

To be 'honest', I think this may irk me more than anything. Even a direct or possibly semi rude criticism is more palatable than the poster who practically compliments any jacket style or fit only to be nice...even if it is contrary to his past posted opinions. This stands out like a sore thumb and comes across as just an added phony gesture of feel good.

Well I wish I had known of this forum when I was buying all the jackets that were actually too big for me. I didn't really know very much (read almost nothing) about quality hh jackets. They were comfortable and that was that. I value feedback and would want to hear about any potential issues.
Also sometimes time is of the essence if there is an approval period on a new or used jacket.
It's a public forum and we are all grown ups, of course being polite is always in vogue.
If there is something wrong with what I have, I want to know.

So true! And, when someone compliments every jacket, their compliment becomes diluted and less meaningful . . . it is impossible to tell if it is genuine or feigned. It is the flip side of the boy who cried wolf.

I never once commented positively on someone's jacket if I didn't mean it. I am genuinely and honestly floored with the beauty of the stuff people post at least three times a week and when it sounds I'm exaggerating, I do not. If some jacket wasn't quite to my linking, I'd shuddup about it.
The only thing that irks me about this place is when certain members trash certain brands by default, calling them 'inferior' to some other brand, without giving a single reason as to why, or a single fact that would prove the supposed inferiority of the maker in question. Like it's often the case with Schott. I've heard comments comparing Schott to mall brands... Often, when someone would post their new Schott jacekt, there always a 'oh, that's nice but you could've done so much better...' vibe to those threads.

I think there is a huge difference between:
1.Telling someone their new jacket is terrible because its not a style you like or its from a maker you don't like and
2.Telling someone you think there may be, like in the original case, an error or flaw in the jacket they may have missed (i.e.: chest pocket was incorrectly placed).
I think we are all grown up enough to decide when its appropriate or not.

I like it too!
I'd also want to say one thing about fit. What I've learned is that sometimes a jacket looks great in a photo but is very restrictive and not very comfy for the wearer.
I just wanted to say that there's a dimension of fit, I'd call it "feel", that is hard, if not impossible to capture in photos.
To me, this dimension got more important than the "look" dimension lately. I believe that if it's comfy, I'm gonna wear it more and it'll look great quickly. I also love when people look like they enjoy what they're wearing, how they're wearing it, and you see that best in motion.
Don't get me wrong, by that I don't mean oversized or baggy looks (which I like, but not in leather jackets - skateboarding socialised me in the 90s) But those really tight jackets, especially in heavy HH are not my cup o' tea. It depends on the leather of course.

Concerns regarding the fit should be brought to attention also. Again, I would appreciate if anyone did the same for me. The quality/beauty of the jacket cannot be viewed separately from the way it fits, for as long as the person intends to wear it.

I'm not a jacket expert by any means. I most likely couldnt tell the difference between one leather from the other because Im so dumb in this matter. That includes manufacturers both foreign and domestic, custom leather jacket tailors, types of leather quality and jacket designs including traditional and new.
I love the flight jacket look and I always have. I'm only just recently getting in to the military flight jacket history and who's doing excellent to poor quality reproductions because of my recent US NAVY G1 tribute flight jacket with morale patches to honor my 89 year old fathers USN aviation career.
BUT.............. if an individual joins the Fedora chat and asks for purchase opinions, I think I would ask what kind of budget he has in mind first. A thousand dollar purchase would frighten the **** out of most folks for a first time buy ! Then the FL can supply him with nearly every option ( including outstanding bargains on E Bay ) as to the FL members are an infinite source of this kind of knowledge. The FL even has a classified thread here.
If the 'new guy ' bought a real piece of ' **** ' and wanted to show off his purchase at the FL, I don't think he should be criticized for poor judgement on his part. SIMPLY WELCOME HIM TO THE LOUNGE. He will start to pick up the ' FL LINGO ' quick enough. I certainly did and I'm still learning something on every visit.
