My wife's home town (Alberta Canada) has the world's largest garlic sausage (kielbasa sausage) statue at the highway junction. Just up the road from the world's largest easter egg (pysanky egg).
The town is very small it is the sausage statue that is big....42' or thereabouts. The little town has two sausage makers and the town is split about down the middle with supporters of each. If you want to start an argument claim one is better than the other....in this town them are fightin' words. I have tasted both and to me they are both addictive.....I call it Ukrainian crack!
This goes back 30 years but then the town offered fully serviced, sidewalks and all, city lots for $1 on the promise you would build on it within two years. And when I was last there they were still for sale....all this only 45 minutes into Edmonton.
This is my wife's birthplace. They have 2 kielbasa makers in this small town and if you want to start a fight publicly declare that one is better than the other. People here take their kielbasa seriously.
I think Quebec smokers are about the toughest SOB's on the planet. Anybody that stands outside in minus 25 degrees to grab a smoke gotta be tough.
