A1's are my favorite, especially the A1 that JanSolo once posted.

Does anyone think an A1 is horsehide is a bad idea?

Yes. I do, the drape of capeskin is closer to the look of the issued jacket. If you're not bothered about this then a thin horsehide will give a more robust jacket.
On the other hand thick horsehide doesn't suit the pattern at all IMO.

Favourite jacket style .... Californian ( single main zipper and D-ring fasteners and straps at cuffs and sides).

Favourite leather ... man that's a toughie ... for the above jacket either seal or russet Buffalo ( which is AMAZING hide). I also am a real fan of the oilpull steer and horse used by Aero 3 or 4 years ago ... it had a GREAT handle and wore amazingly well.

I like the iconic style of the A-2 in grainy horsehide. Even though as far as jackets go, there are better made and better fitting jackets, it is still my favourite.

In my limited experience thus far.... 50's Halfbelt Vintage midweight HH. Comfy, fly, distinctive and versatile. I love the look of Horween FQHH and the lustre but the break-in is hard effin' work!

At the minute, it's my Aero Bootlegger (customised with throat latch, button cuffs, tartan lining, and two G1 pockets), but it could be something different on any given day....

Style: 1930s British workwear A-1 style, bigger pockets than the puny ones on the issued A1s, and closing with nice orange or caramel corozo buttons. Single panel rear. And a Lightning or Dot zipper with folded slider and stopper box. Leather cuffs with corozo button closure, and knit waistband. Lined in a medium weight woollen twill with striped polished cotton sleeve liners. Collar should be shaped like an A2, but with no snaps.

Hide: Lightweight calf or heavy sheep. Russet Brown.

I still seek my perfect jacket.

Scott welcome back!!:)

Cheers Richard.Well, if I had to pick:

Aero FQHH 50's HDB. Awesome, but for colder weather only.

Good Wear Ventura in Japanese Horsehide. The one I let go.

Aero Bronco in russet goat.

And my beater "A-2" from USWings - antique steer hide. Awesome coat.
