Invest it in art ... that may actually appreciate ...... :D ( Ok, OK it's a joke .. calm down, calm down !)

For that cash you could have some mighty fine things ... depends on how long you want to wait.

For sure the boots are nice ... but there are lots of as nice cheaper engineer boots ( Frye's etc.) which are just as good IMHO ( my Frye Brando's have been outstanding boots and show no sign of demise 7 years in !)
For sure the Heron is nice ... but there are lots of alternatives which are cheaper also Aero, BK, Alexanders to name but a few.
The jeans are nice also .. but Iron Hearts are again the top end price wise ... there are many alternatives.

I guess it comes down to you .. .do you know what you REALLY, REALLY want ... then go get it and it matters not what us bunch say. If you really don't know then take your time, choose wisely and get the thing you REALLY WANT. ( anything else IMHO will always feel like a compromise).

Remember the mantra .. "There's no such thing as a keeper " :D

$5k would absolutely get you all 3. I presume you don't want to spend the whole kit and caboodle.

I personally don't see the point of the additional cash to get a Heron when the Aeromarine is available for much less coin. Or you could get a Diamond Dave Hyklas or god forbid an Alexander Leathers Simmons-Bilt with the newer collar.

I personally couldn't see wearing a Heron with a plaid shirt (90% of my fall and winter shirts are plaid pendletons/woolrich) unless you get it with a solid colored liner. That plaid showing through looks really nice on a manikin but I don't see it being terribly practical.

My suggestion of an outrageously expensive awesome thing would be one of Diamond Dave's crusher hats. Pull that brass eagle off the front and wear it like John Chapman in Diamond Dave's Hyklas thread. That is a pretty tough looking hat.

If I received a $5K windfall then I'd be incredibly boring and stick in into savings.

However, if I wanted to spend it on something special then I'd commission a bespoke suit or pair of shoes. Granted the whole amount would barely get you started for a pair from Lobb's, but a smaller maker, like Sebastian Tarek, would come in at less than half the price, and be just as nice.

Ah Worf, I've seen your quiver of leather jackets, and there are many... I've, but a paltry three.. I am the one in need.. maybe your A-1 :)

Ack! You and your pesky memory!!!! Yeah but.... but your three was top shelf from the start!!!! I've made a few... mistakes... I think the Heron's a nice idea but Germany's a bit of a hike... I'd take Fanch's suggestion to heart... check DD's first. Sides... didn't know they made Heron's in our size?

Fanch:
The Hyklas is a great jacket, and I have enjoyed watching its evolution.

Worf:
I have an email into Himel regarding size, I shouldn't be bigger than a 48,

anyone know if that's an available size?

I'd have a hard time choosing between one of John Chapman's USN offerings, one of Bill Kelso's new models or an Aero Speedway. Then I'd also need a pair of Russell Moccasin engineer boots and a custom civvy hat from Diamond Dave...

My windfall wishlist (stuff I long for but can't justify buying)

Himel Heron (button front, of course), Buzz Rickson's L-2, MF Road Champs, Viberg captoe Service Boots on the 2030 last, a DD civil model cap, and the investment into a couple of my favorite true vintage pieces: a pair of Sears Wearmaster engineer boots, an early Lee 91-B, a Buco J-22, and a badass Fred Harvey/old pawn era biker ring.

Oh and another couple tattoos :D

Please let your wife know that you have my permission to buy two of each of those items

Lost Worlds has a national racer in a 46 and 48 on sale for about a grand. It's going to be heavier then a Aero or Himel but is maybe worth a look.
