Stetson Gun Club Sheep Farmers' Hat

I picked up a Stetson Gun Club today at a local vintage shop for CAD $35, in apparently unworn condition. I'd like to know what model this hat is &, more importantly, whether it really came with the hat band currently adorning it:

20141115_164147.jpg

The hat is without tags nor is there any particular model data embossed on the sweat. Its vital statistics are as follows:

BODY: 4X fur felt, like the Stetson "acorn" color

VENTS: 2 holes on each side of the crown

BRIM: 3" front/rear & 3-1/4" on the sides

CROWN: about 5" as-is, probably 5-1/2" open

LINER: Brownish purple with depiction of flying ducks & endorsed "The Gun Club by Stetson" with the first four words being in cursive. Stetson crest included. All ducks, lettering & crest in gold

SWEAT: brown with gold depictions of the Stetson crest & "Stetson Gun Club". There's also a reference in gold to "Eddie Bauer | Seattle U.S.A." which may suggest that the hat was specially commissioned

BAND: resembles white wool about 1-5/8" tall & 1/2" thick. There was the usual Stetson hat pin inserted therein which I removed prior to photographing the hat.

I think that the fuzzy laniferous band looks ridiculous & I'm hoping that someone can confirm that it isn't the original one. No offence to sheep farmers, but I'm not inclined to walk about sporting such a band, especially one that sticks out 1/2" all around the crown's circumference.

That band's got to go, unless perchance it is original & I accordingly decide to preserve the hat as-is. Otherwise I'd like to replace the band with something at least resembling what was there originally, I suspect either a thin ribbon or else a leather strap.

Anyways knowing that Stetson Gun Clubs are worthy hats, I hope someone can assist in identifying this model &/or provide further guidance ... thanks in advance!

A link to this volume of Little Journeys may have been posted previously (I believe Josh has a copy) - if so, just an excuse for a bump.

I have nearly all the "Philistines", several "Fras" and most of the "Little Journeys" but somehow, I don't have this! I even have the bound volumes of the Little Journeys and oddly, it doesn't seem to be in there either. So, thanks for the link!

For what I know and have seen, the Gun Club was a model line from Stetson, brim was never bigger than 3 1/2" so I never considered buying one.
I've never seen one with a hatband like that, looks to be custom made by or for the previous owner. Without the tag it's very difficult to identify a model inside a line range.

Hi Joao.
I'm hoping that the older "Flying Ducks" liner logo in tandem with the vent hole configuration, might enable one of our Stetson experts to identify my Gun Club.
Speaking of big brims, I just took delivery of the following 5-incher:

Nice one, for how much did you got it? 7 5/8 is a bit big for me and I never owned a Charlie 1 Horse.

My offer for $166 was accepted.
Then there was shipping of $28 from the US seller to Pitney Bowes in Canada instead of being sent directly to me.
So it cost another $51 for Pitney Bowes to send the hat to my house, for total shipping of $79.

Way to much for me. More than I ever payed for my 20X black gold Resistols. Shipping cost is a bit too high. I think I would pay less for the hat to across the atlantic!

I hear Fred Astaire singing "Heaven, I'm in Heaven....".

Probably not heaven for some of the workers back then but I'm sure there were worse places to be working. As long as you weren't applying the Nitrate-Mercury solution to the hides. No face masks around all that sanding either. Agh! I sound like a nanny. Back to Fred......

... hence the expression, 'as mad as a hatter...'
