So I'm at my local Starbucks this morning, and run into the group of retireees who are there every morning well before the roosters open an eyelid...

I've seen one of the guys wearing an MA-1 with his company patch on it and have chatted with him about it previously. One of the other gents this morning was wearing a lambskin (had to be) knockoff A-2 with some kind of ATC looking patch and colonel bars. Knowing the guy who wore the MA-1 I went up to this guy wearing the decorated A-2 repro, and jokingly remarked,

"Hey, I think that patch is supoosed to be on the other side of the zipper..."

More talk ensued, and my MA-1 buddy whips out his phone and shows me and the group a picture of him wearing his pa's issued M-422a jacket. With the group now aware this is my area of expertise, one of the guys asks "how do I condition it?"

Using what I've gathered here, I tell him "Pecard's is a safe bet. (Thinking of Goodwear and John Chapman, I also said baby oil, but I didn't go on about it...) Conditioners are kind of subjective but that seems to be the one most of the experts agree on. Your pa's Navy jacket was goatskin, so it is probably doing alright. If it's cracking, that's when you need to worry. If you guys have any questions I can get them answered for you".

At this point the other customers at the coffee joint are probably looking at me in ridicule, and as I exit through the door I hear them softly quacking among themselves,

"No, Pecards, he said Pecard's....Pecard's..."
